I bought this based on how much my family enjoyed The Rabbit Listened. This is turning out to be another favorite.

I dare you to NOT love this book. Buy it for yourself and any child you love.
This book with very few words and sentences, illustrated with simple but compelling art, defies description. It is an ideal example of the magic of picture books: both visual and text/narratives carry equally the responsibility not just for story, but for heart, tension, prediction, character development, and resolution. I'm convinced that you do NOT need to be a dog/pet owner to experience the powerful emotional arc of the story. In fact, the unfolding nature of the individuals (starting with Dog and Child) are truly universal and cross-cultural. I read a library copy but this is one of the many books I read that I will actually buy.You should, too.

Little girl loves this book
We were given this book as a birthday gift for our two-year-old. She adores it! She carries it around like a favorite lovey, kissing the illustrations and saying "love doggy, good doggy." At two, the simple storytelling and emotional journey really moves her and she is always so happy to see the puppy get his happy ending.

My favorite children’s book
What a strange feeling, being brought close to tears after finishing a children’s book. While on the hunt for books for my infant daughter, Good Dog caught my eye in an instant. The short and sweet story of Good Dog is masterfully and beautifully told through Cori Doerrfeld’s gorgeous and vibrant illustrations and I quickly found myself enthralled in what might happen next, despite the inevitability of a happy ending, being a children’s book after all. I did not expect to be so moved by this book, but it profoundly resonated with me and it will be one that I share with my daughter everyday if I can get away with it. I can not recommend this book enough, especially if you are a dog lover!

Adorable book
Great for preschoolers, and maybe older when they're learning to read themselves.Awesome little messages in the book - cycling with a kid on the back, multiracial family, lots of different types of people throughout. Cute drawings. Good for talking about different feelings, and helping other people.Great book.
