Great size survey book of medieval art
I am writing this review without having delved into reading this book just yet. I need it for my class so I bought it. The images look lovely and I like the size as I often read on the go and appreciate an art history book that is not huge and heavy. However, when I opened the package the cover was creased, as someone who adores her art history books I was devastated. I ordered this new and was not expecting that. The book was packed fairly well so I’m sure this happened well before delivery or being in transit. But I am looking forward to reading in more detail.

Well-written, beautiful photographs
The author approaches what could be a rather dry subject in a manner that makes it approachable for someone who isn't necessarily a PhD. I couldn't get enough of the photographs of the gorgeous art objects. I think anyone seeking a better understanding of this under-appreciated period in art history would enjoy it.

Great buy, nice pictures
Downloading this book on my Kindle Fire as opposed to buying the textbook was not only cheaper but more convenient. The pictures are great and the book allows you to zoom in to see detail which is unique. I like how you can highlight passages and use the search feature to find terms. The only problem I have is that there are no page numbers so when we are given an assignment I have to compare to a physical copy of the book.

beautiful
this is a beautifully written and illustrated exploration of early medieval art. Many color illustrations and lucid explanations. For those who have an interest in the subject it will be a happy find.

Prof. Nees is the MAN!
I took an undergraduate class with Larry Nees at the University of Delaware, and I have yet to meet anyone who does not think he is one of the most coherent, intelligent, and fascinating art historians out there. You can't go wrong here!

Didn't like format but good survey level textbook
I got the kindle version. I think Kindle has a long way to go for making art books worth purchasing. However, this is a good survey level textbook.

Ok book, good price
This book was for a class on Medieval and Byzantine art. It was a good basic book, but it didn't have all of the material we wanted to go over, and we ended up using it as a supplement to other materials. The information it does provide however is good and extensive, the images are all really good and overall this is a good leisure book, but I don't think I would like it as a textbook again.
