Witch Crafting: A Spiritual Guide to Making Magic

Outstanding Book on Witchcraft!
This is the first book I've read by Phyllis Curott (her previous work, "Book of Shadows", is in my queue) and, as a practicing Wiccan since 2012, I can honestly say that Curott has provided a fresh, magickal view of the practice of witchcraft! Her energy is palpable in this book, and I found myself eschewing my normal bed time to read "just another few pages." Curott is a very well-respected figure in Wiccan circles, and her knowledge of and love for witchcraft is evident within this book. It's an absolute must have for anyone who wants renewed energy and vibrancy about witchcraft.

One of my most favorite books I've acquired in my spiritual journey.
One of my most favorite books I've acquired in my spiritual journey. So wonderfully written that you can feel the passion Phyllis Curott put into this book. I have learned and connected more with my spiritual self through the use of this book than any other i've read thus far. I recommend this book to not only beginners but also as a refresher since just reading makes you feel more connected to the universe.

I like this book because it has assignments. It gives guidance to real practice. I was looking for something that had an organized approach. This book was just what I was looking for.

For those of us on a spiritual path...
This is a true spiritual guide. Unlike so many other books on witch craft and paganism, the focus is not centered on history and facts as it is the real experience of embracing the divine. I have learned through the author's teaching how to have a deeper relationship with the divine and a better understanding of myself. At no time did I get the impression that I was being scolded or looked down upon. This book is one of the few that has earned a permanent place in my library.

Nothing I haven't read before. Sexist and... what?
I'm trying, but her books don't sit right with me. Her descriptions of magical events seem exaggerated at times, (mostly in her Book of Shadows book) which I can excuse. However, I can't excuse sexism. She also tries to say the Threefold Law is flawed. I understand people's views that the 3FL seems like punishment, but to many, that isn't the case at all. Still, most of us do believe in our own karma, regardless if we follow the Law.BUT she then has the ovaries to say experiencing the divine will be what keeps you from doing harm. Once you experience them, you won't want to harm again, because that is when you fully realize the divine is in everyone! No. I know many people, and I know they are as divine as me. I have also had encounters with divinity.I still want to punch people in the face. I don't do it, but I think about it. A lot."You would simply never harm, or manipulate someone else because you recognize that they are an embodiment of the Divine." Witchcrafting, 181"The experience of being in the presence of divinity changes everything... Your generosity and compassion flow as naturally as the Sun rises and sets in the evening. You live in a state of grace." 181, 182I'm trying to finish the book, to find something in here I haven't learned in beginner books, but I'm not hopeful. I can't deal with this Stephanie Meyer style writing.MAGIC IS LOVE!POSSIBLE CONFLICT? (LOVE) MAGIC WILL FIX IT BEFOREHAND- AND HAVE SPECIAL EFFECTS.YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORK ON BETTERING YOURSELF (BELLA) BECAUSE ONCE YOU HAVE (EDWARD BITE YOU) THE GODDESS, YOU'LL BE A SPECIAL LITTLE SNOWFLAKE.No one wants to be the Bella Swan of Wicca. The least she could do is separate Wiccans and Witches, as not all witches are Wiccan. I learned that in the beginning, but maybe I'm going too fast for her.Her books are written nicely, and can be enjoyable, but receive too much praise. I wanted books that weren't just for beginners. I'm disappointed. She may be a great witch, but you'd think being a lawyer would remind her to be practical. Still, I will suggest you buy this book (as cheaply priced as possible), and pick out the good bits for yourself. Blessed be.

Wonderful book to any collection
I ordered this book for a friend as well as I own one myself for quite a few years. I read it ever now and again and thoroughly enjoying reading it front to back or use it for reference. Whether a practicing pagan or new to the craft and also one could use it as a compliment to studying other religious aspects. I recommend this book to anyone that is curious about the craft or is a serious study.

I have always loved Phyllis Curott books. She has the ability to share with words a lot of feelings, sensations, thoughts... It is a non religious book. I would not doubt to buy it again and neither recommend to anyone interested!

Disappointing but OK
When I first started reading this book I was really excited, although it was second hand, it was in excellent condition, and the book was much bigger and thicker than I expected. When I read the introduction, I fell in love with it and thought this was going to be the best book I had ever read about witchcraft. Everything she talks about in the introduction is fantastic, but slowly and surely little things start to crop up which disappoint me. At first she mentioned that Wicca was "the only religion in the western world that worships a goddess as well as a god" and I thought this might have been an accident, perhaps this isn't what she meant, because surely she knew that there are many other neopagan religions that worship goddesses and gods. But she goes on to repeat the statement as though she is oblivious to other goddess worshipping westeners. She then begins talking about quantum physics and subatomic particles, which really wasn't explained very well. She continued to use these sciencey sounding catch phrases throughout the book. She also refers to Wicca as "the Old Religion" and states that the Threefold Law is not "traditionally Wiccan" as though Wicca is something much more ancient than the 20th century. The more I read, the more annoyed I got.Despite several discrepancies she does have some good advice on experiencing your spirituality, going out into Nature and feeling the wind in your hair, the rain on your skin, the warmth of the sun, and not just staying in doors with your safe little circle. She asks us to step outside and get to grips with reality. She suggests that tools and elaborate rituals aren't needed at all once you are able to train your attention. She also explains divination as not just finding out your future, but listening to your subconscious, listening to your inner divine inspiration to guide you. She also gives you lots of interesting life stories which add some context to her opinions, and are quite entertaining. Overall this book was not too bad.

BUY!
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Phyllis has a beautiful, inspiring writing style, and she includes just enough anecdotes to make the book personal to her without it being exclusive of everyone else. This book is a goldmine of information, and the exercises are designed for both beginners and intermediate practitioners alike. Always respectful and never patronising, Phyllis has written a book that anyone interested in the natural, green side of witchcraft simply must read. She places the emphasis of the Craft on the connection to the Divine, instead of the slavish adherence to principles laid out in earlier Wiccan works that you see elsewhere, and I can't help but admire her for that.
