Great Starter Set!
The media could not be loaded. This is a great starter train set. In particular I like that for a low price point it came out of the box with accessories such as a train signal, train station, station platform, street signs, railroad signs, telephone poles and unpainted HO scale people. The train and rail cars are well built and well detailed compared to locomotives and freight cars of the past. Train delivers smooth operation. The buildings are snap together assembly but if you want a more stable building I recommend getting some plastic welder glue to keep them assembled as the parts fit loose.Rail cars come with plastic wheels which I swapped out immediately with Bachmann 33” metal wheels. The Locomotive is equipped with a smoke unit, but you must be careful to not run it without fluid in it and be careful not to overfill the smoke unit as it will leak smoke fluid all over if overfilled.Smoke unit really does not show any smoke output unless you have locomotive at 75% speed on the speed controller. Having experience with O Scale Smoke Units I think this has to go with the coil within the unit not getting enough power to work until you reach higher speeds and higher output from the power pack.Track is okay, it keeps the price of the train set down but it is fragile for young hands, and if you are new to HO Trains and EZ Track it could lead to frustration if not set up correctly or handled roughly.I would encourage to upgrade to Bachmann Nickle Silver EZ Track (With Grey Roadbed) if you are looking to expand the train set. While it may look strange both forms of track from Bachmann will connect with each other. And as a whole the train will run on any form of HO Track from other manufacturers if looking to switch out the track all together.*if you are wondering where the locomotive tender draw bar connects to on the Locomotive it’s a long rectangular slot at the rear of the locomotive, that threw me through a loop for a moment there as I expected a traditional hook n loop connection. In closingThis is EASILY the most complete ready to run with added play value set for under $200 you can buy today to get introduced to model railroading in HO 1:87th Scale

Beautiful details
Beautiful details on the train with a running engine wheels, smoking stack, and headlight. Quality details on the cars as well. The accessory are also highly detailed and paintable. The buildings are less quality, but I remember from years ago that this was typical. All in all, I give it a 5!

Very Good starter set
The media could not be loaded. This set is a very good starter for a preteen or adult. The little engine is pretty detailed and an excellent runner. It does not smoke too much at all & made me think it was defective. I called Bachmann directly and they were understanding & under a one time courtesy replacement, sent me the smoker part free for me to replace in the engine. Tech lady even explained on the phone how to do it, but she also explained that because the engine is plastic it doesn't get too hot by design, & running nearly full speed may be the only way to see smoke. Maybe a bit of upgrading needed there. However, very pleased with the support. The track is easy to assemble with care. It was set up under the tree and across the tree skirt in the front & rear. It looks larger because I also bought a 4 pack of straight track separately. I ran the heck out of the train trying to get smoke from the engine and it never derailed. The cars are decently detailed but are all plastic including the wheels. The accessories are nice but definitely meant for a train table, many small pieces. I used the 2 station structures but they will come apart without a bit of glue. The set could have come with at least 2 more straight tracks for a better running experience but it is a starter set. Overall I have no problem giving a strong 4 Stars to Bachmann & the seller for this set. Enjoyable for all. :-)

Great Starter Set!
I just received this set and am having a little trouble understanding all the negative reviews. It was very easy to set up and I have not had any trouble with cars flying off tracks or wheels falling off, even at full speed. (One set of wheels had fallen off in the box; I simply snapped them back into place and that was the end of it.) Yes, the set is made of plastic, but it is hardly flimsy, and the locomotive is considerably heavy and more substantial than I was expecting. If you are at all careful about assembling the track, I honestly don't think you'll have any problems. The set comes with lots of little extras that are reasonably easy to put together and make the whole enterprise a lot more fun than if it merely included trains and tracks. I'm not sure what people were expecting for the price they paid for this set, but from my perspective it delivers everything it promises and is the perfect introduction to HO-scale training for a newcomer like me.

Pretty Frail Rail
I wanted a train to go under my Christmas tree. This is pretty basic. It was placed on a firm floor. The major problem is that the wheels come off very easily and the train easily comes off the track. Often it is difficult to get the cars to hitch together. Finally, I wish there was a power switch on the controller so I didn't have to unplug the unit when not in use. The train station roof wouldn't stay on and the supplied light bridge was very flimsy and needs to be glued together. Now that the holiday is over I want to mount this train on a wood platform and build up the village and characters. I'll be adding some more track. Hopefully it will work OK, but the poor construction of the undercarriage of the cars is not a good sign, and wheels falling off while the train runs is sad. Also, on a level surface, there are still spots where speed reduces significantly.
