Shirley Maclaine’s Career Journey
This kindlebook My Lucky Stars: A Hollywood Memoir by Shirley Maclaine traces the author’s early childhood through her later years of working in Hollywood. The author gives the reader a metaphorical glimpse into the viewpoint of the author’s spirit via sharing: the author being truthful on how she met some of the men who played a significant part of her love life in her 20’s, what the author’s mother went through in relation to her father when being part of a little theater play called Children Of The Moon, the author acknowledging some of what her daughter told her in connection to how she sees her mother in connection to some of the people the author has met working in Hollywood, Maclaine’s friendships with Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, some shocking moments with Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson, showbiz politics chapter and the author explains why Marlon Brando inspired her to get into political activism, and more.

Not quite her bio, but an interesting filmography
I've read many of her books and its similar, nut much more in depth concerning her movies. She explores the men, cast, and women experiences on them, as well as some very personal insights.

Telling her life.
I lost interest with all the wordy complaints with producers etc. Was a great look at her costars! Some so needy! And idiotic. By I do love her acting. She's a great actress.

Enthralling Book on Hollywood People
Shirley MacLaine in her own distinct way chronicles her friendships among the very famous co-stars and friends she worked with...really interesting to read her perspective on her career as well. Book in fine shape and arrived safely.

For Smart People Only
This is a "Hollywood" memoir, not a "Shirley MacLaine" memoir, so be advised. Yeah, she's in there all right, but you get more, so much more. It's one of the most intelligent of all the star bios. If you are looking for a lot of mindless tibits and giggly gossip, you won't find much of that here. But if you are looking for real insight into some of our star icons, like Sinatra, Dean, Mitchum, this is the place to find it. Further, if you have any interest in what making movies is like, if you want to be an actor, director, cameraman or marry one, this is the book for you. If you are a creative person who puts yourself out there for the public, you will love this book. No one else has nailed this experience like MacLaine has. I will never see the Oscars or star interviews the same way again. In fact, the writing is so exceptional and insights so wide-ranging that this book should be required reading in any film class.

..almost, but not quite, 5 stars
When she is reminiscing about her life in show business (primarily Hollywood) this is a terrific book. But the past life regressions and new age psycho babble I could do without. Then again, to be fair, that is very much a part of Shirley MacLaine's personna. She seems to be an unusual mix of the shrewd and naive, and a few of her personal revelations are quite shocking, in particular the state of her marriage. And her lovers! It's a who's who of some of the more famous names in the business. She points out that it goes with the territory of being a young, beautiful leading lady.If you are interested in acting or Hollywood or coping with life in general then you should very much enjoy this book.

MacLaine tells all
I have been a Shirley MacLaine fan for many many years. MY LUCKY STARS is a sort of tell all book, about her different movies and what goes on behind the scenes, and in between takes with her male co-stars. I don't really like gossip boooks, or "tell itall books", but hey, it is Shirley MacLaine, and MY LUCKY STARS showed me yet another side of this actress/dancer that I hadn't known about....like the goins on with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Robert Mitchum. Interesting, but not one of my favorites.

Loved this book
I've followed Shirley MacLaine's career and always know that when she is in a movie, it's worth watching. This is a really great book all about her career in show business. She certainly surrounded herself with interesting people.

Quintessential Shirley Maclaine - a true Hollywood star and cosmic force!
Typical Shirley Maclain-esque: self indulgent, overly self-analytical, but endearingly candid and conversational in this supposedly frank memoir. Ms. Maclaine is at her best when writing about her perceptions of other big stars: Sinatra, Streisand, Liza, Dean Martin, Robert Mitchum, Liz Taylor, Anthony Hopkins, and the very fascinating description of Debra Winger's uber-bizarre behaviour during the filming of Terms of Endearment. What makes this Hollywood memoir stand out from others, is Ms. Maclaine's metaphysical and deeply spiritual take on the interplay of destiny, universal forces, personal searches for self truths that motivate all of us, with a special emphasis on the psyche of celebrities. Whether or not one agrees with the author's world view, one thing is certain: her writing is always compelling, thought-provoking, sincere and entertaining. There is much to respect and admire about how this talented and refreshing woman has lived her life, both personally and professionally. I wish I knew her. She has done and achieved more in one lifetime than 100 highly accomplished people combined. I hope she luves forever- and somehow I feel certain that she will. In her next life I'm sure she'll be one of Shirley Maclaine's biggest fans!

MacLaine' perceptions on the Hollywood life around her
Facinating acounts of her times with Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. I have read a lot of biographies of those two and her perceptions are new information. Just loved it. Her insights into the ongoings of her Hollywood life, films and co-stars are deep, thoughtful and super interesting. A must read!
