Great product, powerful for all you need
I just weld DIY and at a shop, and it has been a fantastic welder. Goes up to 1/2in on 220v, and 80 on 110v. Welds what I need it to. Have a professional trailer welder at my shop who has a miller and engine driven trailblazer and he prefers to use my forney 180st so he doesn’t have to run his engine driven welder and it’s lightweight and easy to use. I would recommend if you don’t have 220v getting another adapter for a generator (if you have one) the circular plug in not sure of the name. Only problem was not with the machine just on my end I didn’t have correct breaker so I kept shutting the power off at 80amps with 110v so just make sure you have all the right electrical or generator when you wanna run higher amps. Other than that the machine is great! Looking at getting the forney 410 220 mp welder someday! Forney has excellent welders!

Buy this if you want good price and a great cheaper machine.
Didn't know what to expect. Being a cheap DC welder, I had my expectations set very low. Let me tell you, this is an amazing little machine. Its not as nice as some of the brand name welders for 10x the price. But I was welding 3/16 steel with 3/16 7018 turned all the way up (3/16 rod is a little much for this guy to be honest) and it did the entire inside of the box 34"x36"x6" for my fuel tank. Never skipped a beat, never hit the thermal protection. I did give it plenty of time to keep cool though. Burned 4 rods back to back at a time. The fan is a little noisy, and never shuts off. But the thing is amazingly light. Now all this was done on 220. I have a small wire feed for any 110 projects I may need to do. With smaller rod this has no issue blowing holes through the 3/16 plate (screwing around)!

Very good so far, but interferes with FM broadcast band
So far great with 6011 and 7018 3/32 electrodes, but if you enjoy listening to the FM broadcast band while working in the shop, this welder can interfere with the reception. Also purchased a Simder ARC-200. This welder is 1/3 the size of the Forney, 1/3 the price, and out performs this Forney, especially on 120 volt outlets.

Great for newbies
I decided to give arc welding another shot after a very disappointing trial and error session a few years ago with a company welder and some 7018. Deep waters indeed. Needless to say, after that disaster of a thousand stuck rods, I had given up on ever learning to arc weld. Enter the Forney 180ST. Absolutely phenomenal machine. Don't get me wrong, it takes practice to effectively strike an arc but it is much simpler with the hot start feature of this welder. It took around 30 minutes a day of practice over the span of around 3 weeks but I now start an arc when and where I want to and actually drop some pretty respectable beads for a newb. If you want to learn arc welding, this is the machine to do it on and it has enough capability to do just about whatever you need it to do with 230V, 180-amp capacity. Money well spent.

Tiny but mighty!
Small but capable. I love this thing for portability and ease of use. It gets more action on the ranch than either of my bigger Lincolns. They have specific usages but if you need something to throw on ur tractor and drag out to the field for a quick repair, this Forney is the one to buy.

Simple to operate
My experience lies in MIG welding: starting stick welding is a challenge. Simple to use, easy to set up. Could also be used as a TIG welder. Works as intended!!

One amazing welder
I read the reviews on this welder and thought they can't be true for something that only weighs 17 pounds. Mine weighs 70 pounds. But since my welder wasn't working like it should, I thought i would try it. I am amazed at how good it welds. I used 6013 rods on 3/4 pipe. It never sputtered one time and it stuck the weld two times until I got it set right. After that I never had a problem. I'm always needing to weld something away from the barn. Now with a generator i can weld anywhere. I am absolutely thrilled with this welder. I haven't tried it on 110 v yet so I can't comment on that. I suppose if you needed to weld a lot because of the cycle there might be a problem. I never had a problem welding for 10 minutes. Absolutely amazing

Good little welder
Takes some getting used to on the settings, but definitely will burn some metal.

You can't go wrong with this great little welding , if you weld on 110v you need 20amp breaker if you weld over 60-70amp , my 15amp outlet don't hold it long time over this welding amperage .
