Portuguese for Dummies (English and Portuguese Edition) 2nd Edition

This is an excellent language learning book for the price! It’s a great source for learning vocabulary and grammar, as well as extensive sections on specific topics such as travel and business if that’s your priority. Note that this is specifically for Brazilian Portuguese, NOT for Portugal or other dialects! It focuses on the Brazilian types of grammar and pronunciation, as well as vocabulary, so this won’t help you for travel to other Portuguese speaking countries. It is also very heavily centered on the Carioca/Rio de Janeiro accent when it details specific pronunciation of letters, accents, verbs, and some slang, so be wary if you are looking to learn a different dialect or a neutral dialect. But it is an excellent basis for any learner as it is extremely easy to understand and I highly recommend it to have as reference and a note taking helper! I supplement the lessons from this book with audible Portuguese lessons, as well as tons of help from my Brazilian partner, and I’m making huge strides in a foreign language for the first time in my life! HIGHLY recommend this book for language learning novices like myself!

The book jumps right into it. As a polyglot it was fairly easy to pick up portugeuse and this is one of the resources I used to do it.

I purchased this book for my boyfriend. As a Portuguese speaker myself, I was quite impressive with the content of this book. I am sure he will not become fluently just by reading it, but for beginners, I believe this is pretty good. It gives an overall idea of grammar, basic conversation and words pronunciation.

I really wish it had a workbook portion to help readers process what they’re learning. A lot of information is given but I’ve had to make my own flash cards to actually retain the info so I can proceed with the book. Having a real life Portuguese speaker to practice with is very helpful.

There is a ton of information on Brazil, customs, people, places to see and things to do while visiting Brazil.

My husband is learning Portuguese cause I’m Brazilian and this book was his birthday gift.It’s a great book, we love the content and has easy explanations on pronunciation, etc.The only thing that made me upset was the fact that Amazon did not pack it well, the book came all folded and weird, I’m gonna have to put heavy things on top of it to make it flat… it was very sad as my husband opened the box to find out a folded book.

Even though this book is aimed at learning 'Brazilian' Portuguese, the content is not far from Portugal.

Didn’t know this was a used book. Terrible shape. Ripped cover. Dirty. Pages written on. Bent pages. Very sad about this purchase.
