Very realistic; loved the characters.
Unfrozen is the ninth book in the fiction series Valos of Sonhadra, which is a collection of 9 fiction books from 9 different authors. And am I glad that I read it! This extremely interesting story starts with a prison for women from Earth that's sent into outer space. Our protagonist Lydia is one of the prisoners who is being experimented on by the cruel and sadistic scientist on board. When the prison enters a wormhole and crashes on another plane does the story really begin.Kai is as fascinated by Lydia as she is by him. His planet has been frozen over and Lydia, with her warmth and special powers, is the only one that can save the natives, restoring them back to their old selves. This is a wonderfully written story; both characters see each other as strange and fascinating, taking out the discomfort and friction from their interactions. They become strong allies, standing together when everything seems lost, and it looks like Lydia may not succeed in saving Kai and his planet. This is a really warm and toasty story that's so realistic and relateable even though it's sci-fi. A total must read.

Exciting and well-written
All right, so I am definitively a sucker for sci-fi, hands down. I have not read the other books of the series because I read that they are basically stand-alone. Ah, perfect! I decided to go with this one first (I am so looking into the others!) to kind of make the rest feel like a prequel.Unfrozen (Valos of Sonhadra) is a story not for sci-fi lovers only. It narrates the story of Lydia, who is a human that has been experimented on inside a ship in space. When this ship hits a wormhole, it crashes in a nearby planet. This planet hibernates waiting for it to be unfrozen. The ideal settings for a character that has been experimented on and now has the ability to produce extra heat.Kai is the being that welcomes Lydia into this planet. They make such a lovely team together and remember I said this story is not only for sci-fi lovers? That is because this story transcends beyond the science fiction and taps on social relationships. A well-written story with an ever-exciting pace.

Beautiful Story
Lydia is a prisoner that survives the crash of the ship on which she and several women were imprisoned, tortured, and experimented. She makes her way to a city of ice and encounters Kai, a sexy and gentle make valos, who seeks to put her at easy. Because of her gifts with heat and cold, Lydia is able to retrieve the heartstone of Kai and his people- well, initially just the males. Eventually, Lydia risks her life to retrieve the heartstones of the female valos and is accepted as an honorary valos. The story has many, many sweet moments and a few tense ones. And the romance blossoms beautifully and gently, without the anger and angst found in some stories. This is my kind of story. Kai and Lydia don't waste precious time fighting their attraction. Eventually, they-and the valos-get their happily ever after.I found this series after I recently stumbled upon and liked the work of husband and wife team, Tiffany Roberts. I've only read this book and Tiffany's in the series (Regine's is my favorite) as I dislike multiple partners in romance stories. So, I know I won't be reading the others. But, this story is awesome and I loved that the author depicted the heroine with brown skin and kinky/curly hair. I've been reading romance books since I was 12 and, can read and can enjoy almost and M/F racial or species paring, and love how characters in stories have become more diverse over time. I especially appreciate authors who can diversify their M/F leads from story to story. I'll be seeking more of Regine's stories.

Not going to LET it GO !!
In this last book of the VALOS of SONHADRA , Lydia , another shipwrecked survivor of the ill - fated CONCORD prison space ship, found herself stranded on an Alien planet. Although there were others that also survived , she was the only one in her group still alive. Not knowing what to expect , she knew she needed shelter and water, and set out to find those things 1st . What she found was that she wasn't no girl scout ! ! Eventually, she stumbled into an Arctic wilderness, which suited her just fine, cause she suffered Severe HOT FLASHES !! ( having those, I can totally sympathize ๐๐๐๐On that prison space ship , Lydia , along with all of the other heroine 's of these books , have been the unwilling subjects of HORRIBLE Experiments that were used to enhance certain natural abilities, helped along with ( future ) modern medicine. Some subjects could experience breathing underwater, others could blend into their environment. Still others were rendered immortal .... As test subjects, they had no choice, and No rights. If they died, and some did...oh well ! And their brains were dissected and whatever was learned went into other test subjects. In Lydia's case , she was always on the hot side. I suppose the mad scientists wanted to make her like the " flame -on " kinda girl. So , being in the chilly winter weather was a-ok with her . After a harrowing experience going down a river, she finds herself not too far from a ice castle city. Of course she goes to explore it, I sure would! She's tired , she's hungry, she has a blanket instead of real clothing ( those zany Dr's didn't give her clothing , Bastards !)And as she is searching for food and clothes, this city seems to be abandoned ,except for these really cool statues .....like ice sculpture s . Really well BUILT ICE MEN....... Enter KAI ! He is the last of his kind still able to move around. And has been all alone for quite some time . So a beautiful dark skinned lovely female is a remarkable find. So unlike the females he grew up with. All luscious curves, and dips and as he is a Crafter, he wants to immortalize her in stone, or perhaps clay.......at any rate, she needs help, and he is the only one able to provide it. What happened next is a remarkable story of two individuals who are able to communicate pretty well considering the language barriers and she helps him get his heartstone back as well as some of his brethren. I really enjoyed this book, as Lydia was the only African American in this series , and I thought she was pretty bad azz. She was able to take something horrible that happened to her, and still be apathetic and empathetic to other people's plight. A Shero for sure !!! I also hope that this series continues . I am totally enthralled with SONHADRA !!!

Regine Abel tells a riveting and compelling tale
Fierce, compulsive, provocative, and unyielding, Unfrozen is a riveting tale of the meeting between two species of different planets. From aboard the Concord to arriving on the land of Valos, author Regine Abelโs plot unravelling is visual and picturesque, drawing the reader without reserve into the events unveiling on the island of Valos. Enhancing and vivid descriptions, as each of the human emotions installed in these beings is stirred, and brought to the fore.

melting moments
like most sweet treats this episode is sweet, moorish and a little bit naughty.. but most definitely nice... a rather traditional tale of girl meets boy.. they get to know each other through some trials and tribulations.. but love wins the day.. sweet, cute and leaves you wanting more !!!
