Q: Does the strainer work for intake water or the clean water being released

Intake only... hole size for water going back into the pool is different size

Yes that’s what i have done 1 1/4” hose.

Q: Is this kit enough for 2 hose outlets or 1?

There are 2 intake strainer connectors, these return the water to the pump. Then the pump pushes it out the larger (1 1/2) hose to the jet connector and back into the pool.
