Easy to use
I’m an amateur who doesn’t like reading instructions. I watched one You Tube video to understand the basic operation and it was straightforward after that. A chain took about 5 minutes to sharpen. Maybe I need to perfect my technique because the chains are not like new but they’re given a new lease of life. I’ve been working on roots which quickly blunts the chain; thus sharpener allowed me to reuse the same chain 8 times. I waited until it was on offer. £300 was a hefty investment but £400 was too much for what was an experiment. Having read reviews on sharpeners without the hydraulic grip, it was definitely a good decision to go for this top-end model and worth the extra investment.

It works well when set up, but is a bit fidley
It grinds pretty good once set up. Leaves a fairly even job. However it's a bit fidley to set up. The chain stop springs could do with being stronger as there's little contact and tends to self adjust. When adjusting fence for left and right teeth I found the geometry is not quite right even with down angle at 0. Need depth and chain stop adjusted to keep an even grind. Biggest bug however is it actually grips the link behind rather than the tooth your grinding which allow movement. Better on a fresh chain but I only really use it on chains needing a lot of work. A file is still king for ultra chip production. On a long job motor gets quite hot which I don't like much. Overall it ok but not perfect. Not sure if It's actually justified at that price compared to the lookalike versions but it sure beets a file on a long 404 chain that's hit something. Could chuck quite a few away a bit earlier at that price though.

Hydraulic mechanism is not very well made
The grinding machine is very well made.Unfortunately the set up is made only for Oregon chains mainly. For other make chains, you need to know what you doing to grind them.I have 2 of them.Bought the second one because the first one stop working after the hydraulic mechanism fails. Later was replaced with new oneCost me almost 1/3 of the price of the machine :-) to order new hydraulic mechanism. Will recommend for sureI will rate them 4 stars due to hydraulic mechanism failure .

Grinder is good
Grinder is good. Only bad thing is it came with US plug and no UK adapter.

Oregon Chain Grinder
For round ground chains, this is the bees’ knees. Does all the angles and includes wheels for 1/4”, .325”, 3/8” & .404” and includes a profiling stone for the wheels. There’s mounting bolts, washers and nuts - two of each. They can be used for mounting onto a horizontal or vertical surface. It’s easy to clean after use, no fiddly recesses. What none of the ads mention, is that the hydraulic fluid needs periodic renewal.
