Simply the best pens I've used in 28 Years of grading papers
Grading college student hand-written essays and typed papers requires having a reliable, consistent pen. Red ink in particular seems to have consistency problems--usually patchy, overly light flow, or blotchy, and that's especially true for fine points. For over 20 years of grading 1000s of student papers I could never find a reliable fine-point (or any other) red pen until I tried one of these. Hands down, without question, the best red ink pen I've ever used, now in 28 years of college teaching. As a left-hander, smeared ink is always a problem for me too, but this pen is absolute truth in advertising. I can write as fast as I want, as small as I want, and the script is fine, clear and smear-free. I keep several boxes in reserve just in case Pentel ever quits making them or they change the formula. For quality and price these are the best pens I've ever used for any task. I rarely review things on Amazon, but this pen is so good it was worth my time to praise something that works far better than anything else out there.

Love these pens
I'm a teacher and need tons of red pens to grade. Love these pens! It writes smoothly, and I haven't had any issues with the ink being blotchy or clumping. I also compared this with the EnerGel Deluxe RTX (more $$) if you look at the photos. One picture, I took apart the two pens, the other picture, is both put together. As you can see, both inks are the SAME. The only difference is the slightly better, weightier construction of the EnerGel Deluxe RTX. If you like the ink, this EnerGel-X is a great deal, as the ink is the same. But if you want a slightly (and I really mean slight) better construction with the Deluxe (metallic parts to the barrel of the pen, and where you push down to click), you can go with the Deluxe. These are really light and comfortable with the grip, although I tend to light slightly heavier pens when I write. Can't go wrong with these though. I didn't think these were any less quality than what you can get at the local office supply store. I would highly recommend!
