Yes, it comes with an easy locking/unlocking domed cover with handle. This makes this iron very handy for taking to classes or retreats. I also have the larger version of this iron. I use it for "ironing" while I use the smaller iron for "pressing" during quilting. Both are excellent and portable but I recommend the smaller one for traveling.

what is the wattage? What is the difference between this model and the more expensive, purple colored one?

The higher wattage is making the iron much hotter for other purposes and thus keep it iron hot longer. It is just like car sometimes rated 100 mph max but other sport cars rated 149 mph mac so the sport car can go faster on the street and also helps to pass other cars easier (It is of course, only for short distance. Driving higher speed than limit for a long distance, it can be ticketed).

Can you steam clothing in all positions without it leaking?

Maybe hanging but it leaks quite a lot on flat surface. Huge disappointment purchase.
