Warm, inviting and totally satisfying
Jean Grainger kept me satisfied, again, with this wonderful extended story from Book 1. She has an ability to describe a character, male or female, young or old, in a quick manner with a scarcity of words that is hard to find in many books. While it seems this paucity of verbiage might hurt her characterizations, it, in fact, strengthens them.Having a strong sense of a persons’ personality, strengths and weaknesses allows the action to continue without feeling interrupted by too many descriptions. I read on and on without the sense of intrusion of too much explanation from the author.Any reader of any one of Graingers’ books enjoy the story, characters and lives of the characters. I am, in addition, impressed by the amount of research she must delve into as her stories seem to flow so smoothly in times of local, country and worldly affairs. In this book alone the Great Depression, WW I and II, the Irish conflict, segregation, travelers, out-of-wedlock children, PTSD, loyalties, orphanages, farming, the class system, plant lore, farming and great houses had to be researched. These topics are the ones I remember in this moment; there are more.It gives me a glow of satisfaction to read one of Jeans’ books and I am thrilled to be able to recommend this book without any reservations. Thank you, Jean, for another excellent book!

A good read!
This is a lovely story about family after WWII. It has old ideas and customs plus new ones. It is about the changes in both Europe and America. It touches on new technologies, racial prejudice, social change, changes in travel and it's increased ease and speed. It shows you family and extended family. One's recovering from a war death, one's dealing with problems of returning soldiers, young couples, middle aged couples, an interracial couple, and more. There are babies, children, and new friends. It is a good read!

Amazing Story
This is an amazing story. The Catholics, English Lords, the Nazi all mixed together. This is a beautiful story set in Ireland.

attention Grabber
I’ve enjoyed every Jean Grainger book I’ve read, and this one is no disappointment. The characters capture and keep your attention from the first page to the last. I can’t wait to read the 3rd book in this series!

A View From Nextdoor: Ireland during WWII
I have been reading historical WW Il fiction set in Italy, Germany and England but never Ireland. The stories of courage and sacrifice seem endless. The Robinswood saga is appealing because of the strong Family bond that pushes and pulls its members but never breaks them. I can imagine this as Ireland's Downton Abbey on television. Had a laugh about Aisling's name being mispronounced. My daughter-in- law is named Ashleigh. And I have a theatre friend named Sibohan. My name is Nina but it rhymes with China. I want to learn more about Ireland since my maiden name is McCloskey. How timely is it about Beau being black in the south in the 40's with all the racial protests going on here in the States. I liked that the 3 sisters were so different. I didn't know there was an Irish Sea.

SO so good!
I loved this book as I have all of her books. So beautifully written. I love the characters and their stories. There is never any tedious back and forth about decisions to be made as in so many novels. You will never spend a moment thinking Oh just get on with it as I’ve done in other novels. The stories move quickly and are so real and beautifully written. I swear this author is my very favorite!
