why do i see so many watches that are water resistant to 330 ft but not suitable for diving?

Scuba instructor here... they want to sell you the 660 ft resistant watch! A $20 Casio or Timex will hold up fine for recreational diving.

Is this watch suitable for salt water? Are metal parts stainless steel?

My son & I both have this watch & we have used it in salt water many times without any problems re corrosion. It states on back "stainless steel back". My watch is approx. 3 years old & my sons about 3 months. Both keep excellent time. For the price I paid they have been very good purchases.

The day part in this watch has many other words apart from the usual MON, TUE, WED, THU, FRI, SAT, SUN. How do I get rid of those other words?

Once your watch is set to the correct day/date so that it changes when it should, the other "words" will no longer be visible after the day/date cycles.

"Water resistant to 330 feet (100 M): suitable for snorkeling, as well as swimming, but not diving" This makes absolutely no sense. Can you explain?

While this watch is fine for snorkeling and swimming, it is not great for SCUBA diving. Why? Because SCUBA is generally done in deeper water (hence more pressure) and for longer periods of time. Snorkling and swimming is largely done on the surface and any depth is usually above 30 feet (less pressure) and for much shorter periods under water. I've used this watch for both swimming and snorkeling and it works great. But I wouldn't take it SCUBA diving below 30' for any length of time.
