Spelling Skills: Grade 2 (Flash Kids Harcourt Family Learning)

The spelling word is printed on BOTH sides of the card - on one side in larger letters and on the other in smaller letters up at the corner that you have to cover with your hand, if you are doing drills. Not sure the reason for this.

I got this for my son for the summer. While he is going into 2nd grade, I wanted to him to have a bit of a head start and get into the rhythm for 2nd grade. He loves it. He does about 1-2 a day on the weekdays and none on the weekend. Spelling is a great skill that many of us lack as we get soften up by spell check and auto complete. Nice thing is in the district he is in, they are heavy on the reading and writing so he has to keep his skills sharp. The books challenge him and we assist as per need but it is a nice way to supplement the classroom work. They have from correcting spelling mistakes to which word comes first in alphabet to capitalizing words. Great array of task for your child to finish and think differently. Highly recommend this book and others from this maker.

My son's public school curriculum is lacking in spelling, as in they do not cover spelling in any form. Instead of complaining about it I took it upon myself to order this book and work at home with him. The lessons cover basic spelling patterns and skills-exactly what I was looking for. He can read well, so he is able to work through this independently. He enjoys the lessons and his spelling has improved. There are a few lessons that require the use of a dictionary (not provided) but I don't see that as a negative. If you are looking to supplement or refresh skills, I recommend this workbook. The actual spelling words used in the lessons aren't necessarily challenging but the focus is on spelling patterns-not memorizing a spelling list.

My daughter is in second grade and for some reason the education plan at her school does not emphasize spelling and she’s really bad at it. I am a really good speller and “grammar nazi” so even though she reads a lot I have been really bothered by her spelling. We can use some of this workbook when she does her homework I am not yet sure what good It does but it is nice to offer some extra assistance in this area that she is lacking.

Book arrived on time, package was secured, bought this for my grandson to enjoy during summer. I am sure he will love it. good book with variety of activities and challenges to hold child's interest.

My son is a great reader, but struggles a lot with spelling. I bought this as a supplement to our home school curriculum. After only a couple weeks, I am already noticing a big improvement in his spelling skills. I wish I would have bought this sooner!

These book pages are ok but the cover was broken when I got it.

good practice book for kids. Perforated pages allow you to tear them and give it to the child. good idea!

The kids like the book and can work on their own. The exercises are easy to understand and my kids are learning to spell.
