Best food for hyperthyrodism in cats
This is a high quality specialty cat food that saved our cats life. Our cat was diagnosed with Hyperthyrodism two years ago and there were the options to do radioiodine therapy in a special clinic, or medication or changing his diet and only feed him the Hill's Thyroid Care food. So we did just that, because everything else would have been too stressful for our beloved tomcat. He adjusted nicely to the dry and wet food and really likes to eat it. We always add some water to make the wet food a little bit more liquidy, because otherwise it is a bit dry. Only 6 month after his diagnosis our cat had normal thyroid levels again!!! Our vet was amazed at how good the food worked. Also after eating the specialty food our cat had stopped losing weight and was way more relaxed again. However, I must express disappointment with Amazon’s delivery service. On two separate occasions during the late summer months, we received boxes of wet food with expiration dates just a few months away—December 25. The texture was noticeably dry, and our cat, who relies exclusively on this food, would only eat it if the can was freshly opened. After the second delivery of an outdated batch, we chose to order directly from our veterinarian. The difference was striking. The vet-supplied cans had expiration dates extending into 2027, and the food’s consistency was fresh and smooth compared to the dry old batch. While I understand Amazon may be trying to clear older inventory, this approach is problematic when dealing with prescription diets for pets with strict dietary needs. Thankfully, Amazon did refund us for the outdated food, which we appreciated. Despite the delivery issues, I really recommend Hill’s y/d Thyroid Care food for cats with hyperthyroidism. It has been life-changing for our beloved cat.

Hills Thyroid prescription car food
I was worried my picky cat would not eat. He has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and cannot eat anything with iodine in it. The Vet said no more kitty snacks or any other foods. Happily he is eating this thyroid prescription food. He does still ask for his bedtime liver or temptation snack. I just give him a teaspoon of his prescription food and add a small amount of hot water and make a gravy, he seems to be satisfied.

Great for my cat’s condition
Ive been buying this for several years for my cat with hyperthyroidism. She actually likes it, and it doesn’t have the odor most food do. The cat is thriving!

Part of a low iodine diet that has helped my hyperthyroid cat
My cat was suffering from hyperthyroidism, which I've since learned is extremely common in older cats because most cat foods are too high in iodine - they all include seafood or kelp or both. He was vomiting daily, yowling all the time, and he lost weight even though he ate voraciously. He was also drinking amazing amounts of water and urinating a great deal. When he was diagnosed I refused the dreadful treatment options the vet offered (such as surgery to remove his thyroid gland), and instead started feeding him a low-iodine diet, because his thyroid gland was taking every trace of iodine and turning it into thyroid hormone. So, no fish or seafood, no cat food with kelp. I started him on this Hill's y/d cat food formulated for hyperthyroid cats. I get the canned food, because dry cat food is sorely lacking in nutrition. (To make food into kibbles, it gets heated at such high temperatures as to destroy most of the nutrition. That goes for all dry pet foods.) I also go to a special farm store and get him fresh ground turkey and chicken, which I freeze in ice cube trays, and every day I defrost 3 cubes of the raw meat for him. In addition, I buy unsalted bone broth and give him 3 - 4 ounces of that to drink every day. Cat food is mostly made up of organ meats, while the ground poulty is muscle meat, but cats need bones for phosphorous, since they evolved eating whole animals. I buy unsalted broth because labels don't tell you if the added salt was iodized or non-iodized salt. I do add a dash non-iodized salt as well as No-Salt potassium to his bone broth, because the vet said his blood test showed a deficiency of both salt and potassium. (Not a lot - I taste it to determine that his broth is just a little salty tasting). So his diet is made up of approximately half Hill's cannedy/d food, half raw poultry, and a supplement of bone broth. Results: My cat stopped vomiting after just a few days on the low iodine diet, and within a month he'd gained back his weight. After 3 months he was no longer drinking and urinating escessively. He is 14 now, appears healthy, and I'm keeping him on this diet for the duration. I hope he lives a long life yet.

She likes it!
Recently purchased after finding my 16 year old Chloe Cat has hyperthyroidism. Have been feeding to her for just a few days now. Yes, it is smelly, but I’m not going to complain about that if it helps her. She is extremely picky, so I was worried she wouldn’t like it, but lo-and-behold, she loves it. I have already noticed that her excessive meowing and crying has reduced A LOT! She is less wobbly. I haven’t stopped her anti-nausea meds yet, because I want to give her a chance to absorb some calories first. I will update in a couple of weeks as to nausea and weight. I’m very hopeful. I’ve had Chloe since she was knee-high to a grasshopper (literally lol). She’s very special to us!

Helpful if you need it quickly
Good. It worked until I was able to get it from the company that makes it at a discount.

Cat may not like
My cat did not like this food he refused to eat it. With that being said it is meant to help a cat with their Health issues and probably isn’t meant to taste good. The value for money is a bit too pricey but the ingredients all seem to be natural.
