Invaluable - but a warning.
I use this with an 39L (older style) Electrim mashing bin. It does an excellent job of keeping the grain together and (mostly) away from the element. It also enables the mass of grain to be lifted above the bin after the mash and the last of the wort to drain out (if you can find a cupboard handle or something to hang if from.)HOWEVER, I have twice now had the weight of grain press it against the element, burning a linear hole in it (and leaving a scorch mark on the element). Nothing that cannot be fixed with a little darning, but a darned nuisance! It is clearly of a meltable, not heat resistant plastic material.I can't report on results, yet, but next time I intend to put a (boil-sterilised) face flannel between it and the element to see if this prevents the problem (or just burns the flannel!!)LATER: One more thing: Tie it on *tightly*. If it slips off the rim of the bin while full of grain, getting the cord around the flange can seem an impossible task! This, however, can be done fairly easily by working round and pegging it with many clothes pegs.
