There are 5 blades: knife, saw, awl, hawkbill blade, and screwdriver. The screwdriver has a notch for stripping wire, as well as “hook” to act as a bottle opener. Both the saw and the hawkbill blade are are thin, making the knife slightly thinner for a three layer Swiss Army.

Is the handle on this plastic o.O?

The silver colored handle scales are pure aluminum with an outer layer of aluminum oxide (that's why they call these alox). These alox models are a bit heavier than the usual plastic-scaled models. Pure aluminum isn't a very hard metal, not very scratch resistant, but aluminum oxide is actually harder than any steel. Most modern sharpening stones are made from aluminum oxide. This doesn't mean these handle scales are impervious to damage from steel, just that the thin coating of aluminum oxide will significantly imporove the wear resistance of what would otherwise be very soft metal to use for handles. While this particular model almost exclusively comes in silver aside from some rare exceptions, the process by which Victorinox makes alox scales alows them to color the outer layer during the manufacturing. So there are other examples of Alox knives with colored handles, and it would be easy to assume such colorful knives are plastic but they aren't. Victorinox's Alox knives are 100% metal.

Best overall folding outdoors pocket knife/tool

This is my 2nd SAK Alox Soldier 7. This is my all time favorite. Nothing wrong with my first one, I've been carrying it for years, but they had a sale and I couldn't resist buying a second one. All blades came sharp and has same build quality I expect from Victorinox. This is for hiking and camping, this is not for urban EDC, there are other models that are better equipped for every day use.

Genuine Victorinox with a blade and a wood saw

The real thing really does work a lot better than the knockoffs. This is the Victorinox I wanted with a good blade as well as a good wood saw which is pretty useful for some decent sized limbs. I like the texture of this one and it's the one I was looking for. I don't need scissors. Unlike the imports which frequently can't cut anything at all the Victorinox steel will do its job and last long enough to be a hand-me-down.

Who would recommend to buy

Great Throw in the pocket knife Just wish it had something to either clip or tie something too. Overall build quality is sturdy. If using with gardening, if you have a thick pair of gloves on not easy to pull blades out.

The type of knife that gets handed down thru generations

Excellent quality. Everything I needed, nothing I don't. Pruning blade is an excellent addition. Saw blade is the best i have seen on a knife.

I mean, it’s a Victorinox.

It’s a Victorinox. Not much else to say. Solid overall. Great quality. Shard blade. Versatile. Easy to carry. I mostly use it in a bag or pouch. For my pockets I prefer something a little lighter or with a pocket clip.
