Looking for A Mr. Kim in Seoul: A Guide to Korean Expressions (English/Korean)

Man oh man is this book hard to find. If you have the chance to pick it up, buy it and don't think twice. I have no clue why it is so rare but I know that Amazon is the only major online retailer that I can find it on. Moving on.This book has much to laugh about. It ties in language, culture, and storytelling. You might read this book cover-to-cover and only take away a few memorable stories. I can guarantee you that some Koreans won;t even know the etymology of some of their own words/phrases but you sure as hell well.It's endearing, funny, and entertaining. It's not exactly appropriate for language study as many of the proverbs and idioms don't exactly make their way into everyday conversation but the history behind these expressions will make you smile if nothing else.The authors know what they are talking about and are not afraid to share some quirky information with you. Well done!

Useful, insightful and brings understanding to some of what I've been hearing growing up.Not only does it explain a lot but helps understand some of the coping mechanisms and drama Korean's are so well known for.I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Korean expressions or understand koreans from a different angle.Its a fun book and easy to read and can skip around anywhere you like.

Great for adding a little color to your conversational Korean.

This does exactly what it purports to do. It provides you a extensive list of Korean idioms and expressions, and provides background on where they originated. Very valuable for understanding things that native Korean speakers take for granted.

As a linguistics major I absolutely loved this book and hope to find more like it for other languages! It was a funny and interesting read.

My parents bought me this for my birthday, and I REALLY like it. It's funny to look at all the different idioms and then the meaning behind them. It helps me to understand more of Korean culture and why they say some of the things they say, that didn't make sense until you get the meaning behind it all. Very cool book. ^^ Great gift for someone like me who is into Korea's culture and is trying to understand the language more.
