Wow! So hard to describe how bad this game sucks
As an avid board gamer and CSI fan, I was interested to see how this game played when I got it for my birthday a few years ago. After reading the rules, we decided to hold off. The kids seemed a little young, and there are only 8 scenarios after which you have to buy more or wait until you have Alzheimer's so that you forget the clues. In any event, we finally had enough adults who wanted to play something, so we dusted CSI: The Board Game off to give it a try. Wish I had could forget the experience. It was excruciating. The first scenario was pretty easy to figure out, but you had to play three levels before you could apply for a warrant to solve it. Which is good because the game lasted longer and there are only 8 scenarios. But it's also bad because the game last longer and there are 7 more scenarios. Most of the game consisted of rolling the dice and moving and trying to get the right number to land on the space you're trying to get to. Like trying to land on the pie spaces on Trivial Pursuit only without the challenging questions and the ability to go again if you get them right. And if by some miracle you got the result you needed, you move to the space and read the card. The first round was kinda cool as you learned the basic facts of the case, but by the second round it was more like duh, I figured that out already. And then at the end when you know the culprit, means, motive, opportunity, and have all of the evidence collected you are asked to list the cards that gave you the clues you used to solve the case. I think they selected these at random because even though it was obvious who did what, as well as why and how, the cards the game selected as the ones giving the key clues make no sense.Neither does playing this game a second time. How did my love of CSI die? I'll give you a Clue. It was SBG Games in the Living Room with CSI: The Board Game Encore Edition.

CSI Bored Game
As far as games go this one was just not worth playing. We had it here at the house (I think it was a gift or something) and we settled down to give it a try. It is extremely redundant and it took us longer to play following the rules (it would be better if you made your own rules) than it would have to just watch an episode. There is a lot of prep and reading involved which is not in of itself a bad thing but I can see how many folks would not get past the rule book. In addition, one of the cards in our set was a misprint and gave us information regarding an entirely different case in the game. The cards are color coded by case so it wasn't that we accidentally mixed the wrong card into our game. The biggest complaint we had was that you knew who did it after the first level but you are required to go through at least two levels and collect specific cards before you can solve the case. All in all we were quite disappointed in this waste of time. I have a hard time thinking hardcore CSI fans would sit through this as well. You have to give the makers this, they did manage to make a bored game. This smacks of something that was made just to sell more CSI stuff and I have to wonder if the execs that signed off on this actually played it. The evidence proves they did not. Save your money for something else.
