A really good beard and mustache trimmer
The media could not be loaded. This review is for the Philips Norelco Beard and Hair Trimmer Series 5500. I had a previous version of this beard trimmer (the old BT5275) and it lasted me over 5 years. I was looking for a replacement beard and mustache trimmer that was height adjustable, without having to change the plastic cutting guides. I saw this one on Amazon. It looked similar to my old one, so I bought it.As one would reasonably expect, the newer series 5500 has some improvements over the one I am replacing. Here's what I love about this BT5500:1) you can adjust the cutting length, longer or shorten, by simply spinning the dial.2) the attachments/guides for the BT5500 are SUPERIOR to the older version, allowing more even cutting of my stubborn beard hairs that seemed to curl under the attachment on the older version.3) the dial on the BT550 has sturdy settings. this decreases the likelihood that applying too much pressure while trimming will result in the height slipping and cutting too short. as an aside, that never happened on the older one, but I was always aware of how hard I was pushing the trimmer into my beard.4) - should be up higher - you CAN USE IT WHILE IT'S PLUGGED IN! that's huge!!!5) the cord is long enough to actually allow cutting while plugged in. it's a shade over 72" (182 cm). You're not tethered to the wall with this thing6) no bulky stand-up type charging base. i much prefer the cord.I am very happy with my purchase.

Great trimmer
It's hard to find a trimmer that doesn't have some detractors for one reason or another. I ordered this one and crossed my fingers. It has turned out to be a great decision. The first thing that sets it apart from my previous Panasonic trimmer is its lithium-ion battery. Regardless of which trimmer you choose, don't buy one that doesn't use a lithium-ion battery. This battery type has a much longer lifespan as well as better charge capacity. I've been using this trimmer twice a week for a couple months now and am still working off the initial charge. And should it ever happen to run out of charge in the middle of a shave, I can plug it in and it will continue to work.I use the trimmer to trim my beard, mustache, and eyebrows at 10mm and 6mm respectively. They have looked evenly trimmed after every use. I've seen complaints from people who use the lowest .4mm setting about uneven trims. I suspect that no trimmer can consistently leave exactly .4mm of stubble. Regardless, I have had no issues with this at all. In fact, one of the things I like about this trimmer is the extremely wide range of lengths I have to choose from. My wife uses it on occasion to cut hair. She loves it too.So what don't I like? The one thing that disappoints me is the fact that it doesn't come with a storage pouch. When I travel with it, I'll have to find my own. Given how little it actually costs to include a pouch with something like this, it is a disappointing omission. The bottom line is that, despite the lack of a pouch, I recommend this trimmer without reservation and would absolutely buy it again.

Ok hair trimmer, but not great at beard/stubble
I've had a ConairMan for a few years and really like the way it 'shaves', leaving just a 5 o'clock shadow (ingrown hair issue, less so for style). My Conair still seems to work ok, but I thought for sure the blades would be dull, so what the heck, wanted to look at options. I ended up with the Philips Series 5000 Norelco clipper/trimmer and am pretty disappointed in the shaving aspect, but they seem to work ok for trimming body hair. Just did a touchup of chest and arms to test, at about 5-10mm. Can't speak to head hair or other sensitive parts.A couple other things to note: 1. They are quite a bit louder than what I'm used to for a shaver (ConairMan) but in line with the sound my Wahl hair trimmers, and 2. The trimmer is pretty heavy, again, in line with the Wahl. I suppose since I travel a bit, those two things might stand out more to my mind than some folks. So, my summary would be these are comparable to a hair trimmer, but I don't think close enough to call them a stubble trimmer, or convenient enough for facial hair, as they don't get as close as I'd like (Conair is .4mm I think without a guard) And calling them "one pass" might be a bit of a stretch.Of course I threw the box out, so I'm stuck with them, my bad. I guess I'll just keep using my Conair as long as they cut; but in fairness, I don't care so much for their guard system, so it's always something. If you get these trimmers, I just suggest opening the box carefully and holding on to everything until you know it does what you need.

1 Day in, 5/5 stars!
Ok so I've only had this product for one day, but I can tell already that this is a great device for trimming my goatee. The manually adjustment built right into the trimmer is absolutely perfect for me. I dialed in a 13.5 for my goatee and it was a great trim. Super fast. Clean. Even. Between shaving my head and trimming my goatee I'll never need to switch the main attachment for any other. Feels solid and charged up relatively quick. Oh, when the battery is dead ( mine arrived dead ) I was still able to use it when plugged in. Can't say that about my previous model. 5/5 stars without a doubt. I tossed on the extra coverage for $4 because who knows, right? For $4 that's worth it in my opinion. Asurion has been really good to me in the past so might as well at this price.

Great clippers! Lasted almost 2.5 years of heavy use.
I cut my own hair two times a week(low fade and long on top) and give myself beard trims 3-4 times a week. I bought these clippers in 2022, and now they are just now starting to not hold a charge. Still useable but annoying when they die in the middle of a cut. So after 2 and half years Im about to order another of this exact set. For the price you cant beat them lasting that long.
