this book is really easy to read
As a student, this book is really easy to read. I feel like it lacks a lot of details that may help eliminate confusion about drawing Fischer or Newman projections, chair conformations, etc, but it is user friendly.I enjoyed that I could rent this book for a fraction of the cost, but Amazon seems to have a bit of a mess up on their hands with the extension pricing. If I want to extend this rental to May I have to pay 87$, but if I just rented the book right now again it's 43$....where is the logic in that? Also, to purchase the rental would be almost 400$, but I could buy a brand new book off of this page for 280$.

A few minor problems, but it gets the job done
Book came tattered, but still usable. There were some notes left in it from the person who rented it before me, but overall it was a usable book and a necessary evil for class. Also, much cheaper than my school's bookstore! So overall, I'd say worth it.

A Mechanism-based Introduction to Organic Chemistry
I like very much that the authors stress the need to understand reaction mechanisms rather than memorization, and that they "follow the electrons". It has been 47 years since I took introductory organic chemistry, and this book is an excellent re-introduction to the subject. My only problem with the book is that none of the answers to the exercises are given in the book. They are, however, answered in considerable detail in the separate, but costly, study guide/solutions manual.

Required for Organic chemistry
Definitely needed to pass organic chemistry with this textbook. I advise people to buy the book early so you can get a head start before the course begins. Organic chemistry 1 focuses on chapters 1-16. Organic chemistry 2 focuses on the rest of the book. *** Can vary depending on the instructor for the course.

Open your wallet and dump the contents on the floor
Money-grabbing jerk-wads. The book is OK, but there are NO ANSWERS to any of the practice problems. You have to buy (or rent) a whole different book to get any answers. Pretty tough to evaluate yourself on your understanding of the material via practice problems if you don't have the answers to confirm you did it correctly. Save yourself several weeks of frustration and get the text book and the answer book at the same time.If you truly can only afford one, buy the answer book and get your info from iTunes U or Khan and class lectures. If I had this semester to do over again, I might just do that.

Everything pretty much explained to satisfaction
Everything pretty much explained to satisfaction. Great mechanism diagrams. This is the only Orgo textbook that I've used but I don't feel the need to acquire another one.
