Just like the one I had as a child! Minus the C Cell Batteries! *Recommended*
I had one of these when I was around 6 years old and it helped my spelling immeasurably. Years later I would be diagnosed as having Dyslexia (as an adult) and the assessor believed that my time with the Speak & Spell was what made it so hard for my learning challenge to be discovered. Essentially, I had gotten used to seeing the words as an image, which is why I can spell well, despite having some issues reading from certain fonts and page colours. I brought this for my 6 year old granddaughters who adore it and have barely put it down since they got one for Christmas. To see the joy on their faces as they play with the Speak & Spell (even with the authentic American accent and spelling quirks), takes me right back to a happier time in my early youth. It makes their enjoyment of it feel so validating and is a testament to the effectiveness of the product and its design. Kids everywhere have way more advanced screens and sound on the most common of devices, but there is something to be said for the benefit of nostalgia, intertwined with shared child hood experiences that have 40 years between them. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Retro is the future
Brought the item for my grandson for his 3rd Christmas and he enjoys it as much as I did when I had one when I was younger( the 80s). Really good to see retro electronics still have a use for today's young generation. Thank you, to the seller, manufacturers and of course I #founditonamazon

A blast from the past
I had one of these back in the 80’s and loved it so couldn’t resist getting one! It’s very similar but not exactly the same. It doesn’t seem as sturdy as the original but I think it would survive a few bumps. It’s quite loud even on the lowest volume but I do remember the original version you could plug headphones into it! I found some of the words hard to understand because of the accident but overall still quite fun to play. It also came with batteries which is a bonus!

Its good but...
I recently purchased the Speak & Spell Electronic Game, and overall, I think it's a good educational tool for children to learn spelling. The interface is user-friendly, and my child enjoys using it to practice spelling words. The game's simplicity makes it easy for kids to understand and engage with, which is a big plus. It has helped my child improve their spelling skills and gain confidence in their abilities. However, one major drawback is the very limited word database. While the existing words are helpful, it would have been much better if the device had a wider range of words to learn from. After a while, my child started to feel like they were repeating the same words, which can become monotonous and less challenging.I believe the Speak & Spell could be greatly enhanced if there was a way to input custom words or expand the word database through updates. This would allow parents and teachers to tailor the learning experience to match the child's level and progress. In conclusion, I still think the Speak & Spell is a great idea and a valuable tool for learning spelling. However, to make the most of it, it would be beneficial to supplement it with books or other resources that offer a broader selection of words. With a few improvements, this electronic game could become even more effective and versatile in helping children develop their spelling abilities. Therefore, I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars.

Educational game
Bought as a xmas present for my granddaughter. I remember buying the same thing for my children when they were younger and they are now aged 44 and 37 respectively. Glad to see it is still going strong. Want to buy the maths one next - if I can find it
