This magnet does the job
This is just as described. The magnet is strong and durable and will definitely hold your weapon in place. This item will hold anything metal in place and hold it firmly. A great item.

Good, but use the screws
I actually got this to mount a readily accessible knife inside my car, as I cannot bring a gun aboard the military base where I work. But, it may be occasionally used for a pistol when I'm off, though I prefer it on my body personally.Firstly, if you are counting on using just the adhesive without using the screws, forget it. Even in the product literature it says not to do this, the adhesive will barely hold just the magnet in place despite the surface being thoroughly cleaned. Much as I hate drilling into my car it is a neccesary evil for the product to work, even for a lightweight knife. Luckily, the plain black magnet and screws are discreet so looks like it could be an OEM feature. Even if the magnet comes apart I can just stick a couple black screws in there and call it a day.The magnet is decently strong, it is no refrigerator magnet, but not near as strong as some rare earth magnets I've handled. I'm a little skeptical that it will hold 30 lbs but didn't test it so can't say. It will hold my full size PT-92 with a loaded 21 round magazine and mounted light, but I wouldn't want to drive down a bumpy dirt road with it.The screws aren't the best I've ever seen, but if you drill a tiny pilot hole they seem fine. They aren't self-tapping.For long term carry of a pistol in a vehicle, I would personally put a bit of microfiber cloth (like you get with glasses) between the magnet and pistol. The rubber is soft but has ridges that I wouldn't trust to not mar the finish as the pistol will vibrate as you drive. The Hellcat I currently own has almost no usable storage beyond the console box, glove box on the passenger side, a mesh pocket by your knee which will hold precisely nothing, and a little slot for a wallet or something, so I'm happy to have this. I would rate it 4.5 but as it isn't an option I will give it 5 with some reservations. The knife is just going to stay in there so not worried about pulling it off repeatedly. Despite having a spring steel clip on the sheath I found it more secure to just remove the sheath, put it in the glove box, and stick the bare blade to the magnet. It's low profile so no danger of the blade cutting or poking you.I'm kind of excited to see what I can use the other one for. A bunch of potential uses.

Perfect
Great product. Amazing how strong the magnet in each is. Works perfect for the purpose I purchased for. Highly suggest them.

Strong magnet
The magnets are extremely strong, even though the double-sided, 3M, sticky tape says not to be trusted, and to use screws for a permanent mounting. The 3M tape is very, very strong and it’s adhesion to a clean, smooth surface is solid. All of my full-size handguns attach perfectly to these magnets. They are very low profile, which is great in some applications. Other times, I prefer to have thicker more raised magnets from the surface. The plastic is very firm and slightly rubberized, will not mare or scratch most firearms, but definitely is not the most delicate material, nor is it the hard plastic found on other magnets. All in all, a great product.I would have given five stars, if the rubberized plastic was slightly more tacky, and the magnet was slightly more raised from the mounting surface. If you want low profile with strong, magnetic attachment, and a small slim package, this is the mountain magnet for you.

Very strong
Might want to use a fabric or gun sock when storing handguns because these can definitely scratch up your finish. That being said they are strong and work well and will hold handguns up through a holster

Strong Magnets Securely Holding Pistols
We needed a way to inexpensively keep a sidearm close by in the bedroom and in my office. These magnets work great. Do NOT use them to store loaded weapons where prying hands or curious souls can get hold of them! The magnets have ideal strength to securely hold a full-size pistol with 17 x 9mm rounds in it but the magnets would NOT stop a child or other mischievous entity from pulling a pistol off of the magnets or squeezing the trigger. Proper gun safety matters, folks, and it matters a LOT so although these magnets work great for tucking a weapon of choice up and under something or onto the side of something for quick, easy access... do not think that just because you hid your weapon out of plain sight that someone would not find it... especially kids playing hide and seek in the house, someone cleaning your house (if you can afford that sort of luxury!) and/or a nosey person snooping around your stuff because, well, they're too darn nosey for their own good!Would we buy these magnets, again? In a word, YES. They have the strength to securely hold pistols in places where we want to keep them if we ever have the need to do so. Also, the rubberized coating on these magnets seems thick enough that we do not expect that any scratching of our weapons will occur from contact with the magnets.
