No shine, wonderful product, worth the money!
Dead flat varnish is absolutely worth spending a little extra! We built an L-shaped desk top out of Birch particle board. After staining, I wanted a very low sheen to the wood top to match the farmhouse feel of the home.I brushed the varnish on with a brush The was reccomended for poly application. I worked quickly and smoothly trying to get the least amount of brush strokes while covering my 2 long desks! I did not end up with any white streaks or cloudiness.Dead flat did not disappoint. First photo is stain only, no varnish. Second photo is after 2 coats of dead flat with light sanding in between. I tried to get the sunlight in the pic so you can see it’s barely any sheen at all. It feels so smooth and comfortable to the touch. Even the “sides” of the particle board feel smooth and aren’t shiny. 3rd photo I tested with a drip of water, left for a few minutes and it wiped right off with no marks left behind & no soaking into the wood.I still have half a jar left and plan to re-seal some barn wood counters in my bathroom. Very pleased and would recommend and would purchase again.

Super product.
Fabulous product. Painted the backsplash in my son's kitchen to match walls but wanted to protect it from splashes, etc. Rolled two coats of this over the paint and it looks great. If anything gets on it, he can use the soft side of the sponge to get it off. Also used it over the paint on the wall under the kitchen island so that it will be easier to clean. I used very flat paint on all the surfaces, so the fact that this is dead flat is great. You can't tell where I used it and where I didn't. I rolled it on with a small, foam, cabinet paint roller.

The only true "flat" varnish
This is my favorite flat varnish. While with others, you can see a slight sheen, this Modern Masters varnish is completely invisible. We used this varnish to protect some nightstands for our bedroom. The flat finish helped us to keep the farmhouse look we were aiming for. We put glasses of water on these nightstands every night, and many times we forget to use a coaster. Two years later, these nightstands are still good as new. Any liquids spilled on the nightstands bead up instantly.

Best Matt sealer for old wood
I used this to seal my expensive RH Flat Iron table which came totally raw and unsealed. See my photos for each step.. I brushed a coat on, dried, lightly sanded, dusted, wiped with a damp cloth, brushed another coat and it was good to go. I will add one more coat just for extra durability but my once rough raw table is soft to the touch and a silky, velvety soft texture yet still rough looking like salvaged wood should be. I've been feeding my messy toddler at the table and getting it cleaned later than I should but the table is perfectly protected and I love it. While applying it darkened the table a ton and looked milky. It dries soft and lighter but not 100% the lightness it was to begin with. This CAN be used for exterior application which is awesome. The VIC smell is not bad, a slight smell but crack a window and it doesn't smell at all.

I would recommend this varnish more for removing the shine from an ...
I used this as a sealer for some unfinished chairs i have. The varnish did serve its purpose in sealing the wood to maintain that fresh wood look, but it is not 100% transparent, it leaves a has a minor milky stain to it does leave a bit of a rough finish.Expect to coat and lightly sand, then do a second coat and sand again. I would recommend this varnish more for removing the shine from an original coat rather more than a single flat varnish, however it does seem that other reviewers like it for that purpose.

BEST NO SHINE VARNISH!
My husband makes coffee tables, and a lot of them have a rustic, farmhouse look to them, and in order to make sure they look rustic, a shiny varnish just won't work. I had tried a lot of other varnish and they all left some sort of shine to them, this stuff does not. It is the perfect varnish to put over anything you want to have an old rustic look but have no shine. When you apply this varnish it has a very milky look but as soon as it dries, it actually looks as if you never put a varnish on it at all, but you know it's protected, and that is exactly what I wanted. Would work great for pieces painted with chalk paint or milk paint, to give it that vintage look. I definitely recommend this product.

Great over chalk paint
I use this over chalk painted furniture and it provides a durable final finish, much better than wax. Cleanable, flat, smooth finish.

Worst product I have ever worked with
Every room in my home has at least one piece of furniture that I have successfully restored. I recently stripped an antique pine dry sink, sanded, washed with mineral spirits and washed with water. I put the doors and drawer in my basement to apply your varnish the base is in the heated garage. Yesterday I applied the first coat on the base with a brush as directed. I did not like the brush strokes but I continued. I then put the first coat on the pieces in the basement with a foam brush. Much better. This morning I put a second coat on the base but before I even finished I noticed the milky hue which did not disappear. I had to strip everything all over again. Needless to say I will never use your varnish again nor will I ever recommend it. FYI it is not easier to work with then polyurethane and is not any more forgiving.
