I have a small potted bougainvillea. How much fertilizer can one plant use in a couple of seasons, or for the shelf life of the bag? 2 pounds? 10?

For one potted plant, usage will be minimal, maybe a teaspoon per month, if that. I would get the smallest bag available and buy more bougainvillea plants. They're great - very eat to grow.

We have a large bougainvillea that covers the side of our garage. Our gardener trims it back every other month. Is that too much? It shows brown stems

I can't say whether it is too much because I like to let my grow, but I've noticed my gardener trims it back maybe once or twice a year, so I'm going with that. Check online to see guidelines. I do love this fertilizer. My bush stopped flowering after 10 years of beautiful blooms. It responded immediately to the fertilizer and don't overwater.

How do you apply to a bougainvillea that's 3 stories high & 20' across w/ plants growing under the canopy & half the roots under cement?

If its that big, its probably got its own source of nutrition. You're fine. My family's bougainvillea is the same way and its a chore just to trim that monster down every year. One year we found out it had grown roots into the sewer line coming out of our house. We had to dig that whole thing up and replace the pipe.
