Nothing like a Xikar! I would never buy another lighter. Lifetime warranty with no questions or hassles. Lights anything even full wind of my convertible! I keep one for a backup! Cant live happily without it…Have had one for over 25 years now.

I like the lighter. Its somewhat windproof. The reason that it only got 3 stars from me is that the finish completely gets ruined after a few months. Also I've had this lighter for a few years and it stopped working.

Lighter worked well, was weighted nicely and looked decent. The flame was semi-wind resistant and strong, however did run through fuel quickly, it only lasted me about a week per refuel. The adjustment wheel on the bottom was easy to turn, but didn't allow for much change in actual flame size. The flip cap stopped working about two weeks after purchase and the lighter stopped working after a month of use. I would advise you to spend save $35 and buy a pack of 10 bics or clippers instead.

This lighter produces a flame unlike any I have seen before. To me it appears to be a hybrid, incorporating the best elements of both a traditional soft (lighter fluid) flame and that of a butane torch lighter. It provides a windproof butane flame that is perfect for lighting cigars. Like I said, the flame is a little of each type. About half of it is a bright blue torch lighter flame and it does sound like any other torch lighter, with it's "jet engine" hiss. But the other half of the flame is the soft yellow-orange type. The result is ideal for the proper toasting needed when lighting a cigar. I also love the flame control knob that can be adjusted using my fingers, no screwdriver is needed. Along with Xikar's lifetime warranty, this lighter is a great value. (I wish it had a fuel level window. But after using it awhile, I now have a good feel for when refilling is required. Besides, if it had a fuel level window, I'd have to give it a six star rating).

I noticed after opening the box the front of the lighter was clean looking, the back had a few scratches, flip top wasnt as solid as people say...no biggie. Checked the valve for air and filled it with fuel. It worked flawlessly for about 15 or so clicks. Then the filiment heating element stopped working. Kept trying it the rest of the day. I even clicked it and lit it with another lighter to make sure the fuel was despensing properly. Yup its broken...I sent it back the next day. These lighters are a cool concept but the geniuses making them need to figure out how to make them last as long as people expect. Then to top it off I have to pay for return shipping on a defective product. Ended up going to the old faithful Butane Lighter Insert for Flip-top Lighters which has a flint lighting system to replace my old zippo lighter fluid insert. Everyone is having problems with these types of lighters after reading various reviews. Stay away unless you like sending things back on your own dime. Would have gave negative stars if possible.

I've been using this for a few months now, and it's been a solid lighter. It's a great size, looks great, good to carry on you at all times for any occasion.Neat little feature, the longer you hold the gas lever depressed, the flame will stay activated after you let go until you close the lid similar to a zippo.You may need to be careful however as the lid on this doesn't go all the way back like a zippo and will get warm from the flame. So close it quickly and don't let your finger linger on it and you'll be fine. Because of the potential to burn yourself closing the lid, i'm knocking off a star, it could be easily fixed if the lid opened to 120 degrees or so instead of 90 degrees.

This stylish lighter is very well made with a lifetime warranty. This substantial lighter is solid and feels heavy in the hand, a joy to hold. Ergonomics couldn't be better, fingers are nowhere near the flame. The lighter does not use an excessive amount of butane as other torch lighters tend to do.The top of the lighter is flipped open to reveal the torch and igniter button. Lights first time everytime. The single torch can be adjusted down to produce a 1.5" candle flame, perfect for lighting cigarettes. The lighter has a catalytic device built into the torch jet to help keep the lighter lit in windy conditions. The flame adjustment wheel is easy to turn with thumb and forefinger, yet stiff enough to avoid accidental turning.This is my favorite lighter at the moment, replacing a sterling silver zippo. Five stars !

So far so good. It's a bit big and boxy compared to a Bic, but it's definitely of a better class. I bought it as something that is not disposable that I can use at high altitude (I typically backpack in the 10-13,000 ft range in the Sierra Nevadas). A mild flame (like a candle) on the disposables is typically the only lighters that will work at altitude, but I'd like something more like a torch, and torch lighters definitely do not work at altitude. This is a mild flame plus a coil, which puts out a bit more flame than a disposable, and should theoretically work at altitude, but I have yet to have a chance to test that theory.In the meantime, it's attractive enough with very nice fit and finish.
