The pieces are perfect for baking
I purchased the HIC Manual Nut Chopper by Harold Import Co. and I must say, it has been a game changer in my baking routine! As someone who frequently uses nuts in my recipes, I was tired of spending so much time chopping them up with a knife. This chopper has saved me a lot of time and effort, and it was definitely worth the price. The chopper is easy to use and clean, and it feels sturdy and well-made. However, I did find that it struggled with harder nuts like almonds. That being said, it works great for softer nuts like pecans and walnuts.Overall, I highly recommend the HIC Manual Nut Chopper to anyone who frequently uses nuts in their cooking or baking. It's a fantastic investment that will save you time and energy in the kitchen

Easy to use chopper
This manual food chopper is just what I need. It is almost perfect with the only flaw being because of the way Amazon shipped it. Rather than coming in a sturdy box as usual, this came in a plastic (?) envelope along with two books. The envelope was torn and really banged around - enough so that the UPS driver had me make sure everything I ordered was inside. It was only later that I discovered the top of the manual plunger was broken. Still usable but not happy with the shipping.

Close enough to the original
I used to use my Grandma's original one of these and it was heavier and more sturdily built. I was a fool to get rid of it at the time. This product works, it's just lighter and doesn't have that heavy, sturdy, built-to-last feel, but it chops pretty much the same. It's slightly smaller too so you need to quarter your regular sized onion to make sure it fits in and is able to chop. It works good enough for me to keep and use and yes I'd recommend. It takes up less space and does a better job than some other more modern choppers I've tried. It works well for garlic and ginger as well. Of course you're not gonna get an even chop but it does work.

Old Fashioned and enjoy it
I bought for some recipes. But this style is purely nostalgic. I have not used the knew designs ones. But I heard better chopping. I enjoy my old fashioned one. lol. 70/ 80 are now old fashioned

Faulty Piece of Crap
Ordered 05/10 & last date to return was 06/10. Why would I think that I would need to test this simple piece of machinery before I washed it & put it in the cupboard. Now, 3 whole days past the time to return it, I pulled it out to use it for the first time & the lid just spins & won’t tighten / close. The plastic piece inside won’t stay put & it flops up & down when chopping. This is a piece of crap & I wish I could get my money back.

Flimsy but works
I have an American made one of these and now a Chinese made one. The American made is heftier and about 4 oz larger. It has blades that are 90 deg apart. It has a larger mouth so is easier to get your hands in for cleaning and the plastic disc is larger and heavier and there is not very much play in the plunger. You can still buy these in stores and charity places. The Chinese one is smaller making it harder to get your hands into for any cleaning. There is a lot of play in the plunger and the blades are paper thin. The thin plastic lid wants to pop off easily and so you have to hold it on. The plastic disc is thin and softer plastic which can be picked up and tossed around inside. I have only used it for strawberries and soft white onions. I was afraid to try to chop and nuts. The blades are angled about 45 deg on the sides instead of 90. For the price, Id go the store and buy the American one off the shelf. I've chopped everything in that one with no problem.

Excellent for small amounts.
I have had this chopper before. Ex got it now. HA! This unit is obviously not on the top line shelf. Still it holds it's place in the kitchen. Just do not abuse it. You do not need to slam the cutter thru the ottoman plate and glass. Just chop with reasonable force. I chop, shake, and chop. Continue until you reach your desired grate. I love to make fine onion bits, for Hotdogs. Just the best. I actually learned at an early age about this process for Hotdogs. The ladies in our neighborhood ballpark for the girls softball, and boys Babe Ruth Baseball. They used one just like it to chop pounds of onions each season.
