Quite functional and good value in the right application. Decent imaging.
Good high frequency response and imaging. For the price it's a solid selection compared to other similar options. Trying to get low end out of them is a fools errand and what is there is muddy so temper your expectations in that regard. These can function decently in a passive multi-speaker setup that includes a sub or other full range speakers, but I would not recommend them as a dedicated pair of monitors by themselves. There are better powered options for just a little more like the Eris ones. They also take a bit of power, which was a little surprising to me. If you don't have individual speaker pair volume control then these may not be as loud as you think they ought to be - likely an advantage if you are just buying these as inexpensive surrounds or rears - that's a good application for these.

Great replacement & upgrade
I bought these to replace my 30 year old Radio Shack Optimus PRO 7AV speakers, which now need new woofers. It was a nice surprise that such an affordable speaker could sound so good, and a definite upgrade in sound quality from my previous speakers! They have a wider range in frequency, most notably in the lower bass range, and with a lil treble & bass tuning, they've got my classical, jazz, & rock music sounding great. So glad I found these, a really good purchase for my 2.1 sound system. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a set of good sounding speakers on a budget, you won't be disappointed.

Best $50 speakers you can find!!
I bought these for a 2.1 system mainly for music (Streaming and Vinyl) but also my TV. I wanted a simplistic and vintage style. The build quality is beyond what I had expected. The color and woodgrain blend well even with the cloth covers on. I am currently running these on a 100x2 Hi-Res streaming amplifier with optical and HDMI ARC. I was extremely curious if they had a limit of 75hz or could they audibly play lower with little to no distortion at reasonable volumes. I played a few tracks and was able to achieve a clean 40hz with no issues. Being as small as they are the soundstage and performance was outstanding and really similar to my Polk Audio XT20 Bookshelf speakers I had sitting around. All together I'd say it's 100% worth the money and best bang for your buck. Thank You!!!

Way Better than expected !!!
Wow, what a steal! Dayton Audio B-40 speakers deliver astonishing clarity and vintage charm for under $50! Perfect for desktop listening or paired with a subwoofer. Real binding posts and crossover add to their incredible value. Clear highs and a bargain price make them a must-have! Highly Recommend! I would for sure buy again!

Pretty good, not fantastic.
Sounds very acceptable, but I have other speakers of the same size that sound much better. However those other speakers were higher priced JBL and Def. Tech.I would not purchase again, and will probably pass these to someone that needs small speakers. If you want something new for a small garage or dorm these will do nicely, especially if you get them on sale at a few bucks off. Otherwise, if you're into a more critical listening experience, it might be better to find some pre-owned small bookshelf speakers of higher caliber.

Excellent speakers when price matters
Unbelievable value! The speakers arrived well packaged, with warranty and wire. They sound clear and plenty loud for a room of any size. Pairing them with a subwoofer to cover the <75Hz range is advised, if you plan on using the speakers as a primary audio for music and movies. I have them hooked to a small 2.1 receiver and can't think of anything negative to say.

Unreal Value
I saw the price on these speakers and thought I would get a set for my kids bedroom. They are well made and shockingly good. I own DALI, ELAC, and Polk. All great brands that do sound better. That said, those brands are significantly higher in price. The value Dayton provides with this model makes them the choice for a simple no frills solution.

Great build, budget price.. sounds is so so…
These speakers are built well and sound good but the frequency response is a bit lacking on the low end. They can handle around 30 watts cleanly. It’s a very full sound but don’t expect any pounding bass or frequencies lower than 60Hz.
