Does this catch coffee grounds?

While I’ve not personally attempted to strain coffee grounds I believe it should catch grounds which are coarse. It’s caught a lot of tiny debris for me during the remodel of our kitchen for which I’ve been highly impressed.

Are they truly 4.5 inches in diameter?

4 3/8 based on my tape measure so just a hair under 4.5 inches.

I believe they are stainless steel. I really love this product, I even put it in the top portion of the dishwasher for cleaning.

maybe it's difficult to deal with the waste?

Not at all, I just empty the debris in the side with the garbage disposer and turn it on. Love these strainers, they are terrific.
