Would this be good for an older person to answer the phone and hear and speak clearly?

Definitely. The audio is sharp, clear and reduces any interference. Additionally, the volume can be controlled on the speaker itself or by a mobile phone that is bluetooth linked. I regularly use mione for calls. I can anser by pressing the button on the speaker or the phone, it doesn't matter which. I use the phone to dial numbers and use the speaker for the call. This speaker is so good that I can move around the room whilst having a conversation. I can work at the PC whilst talking, can eat, drink etc. etc. without being too close to the speaker as it really is sensitive to voice audio and as it also limits background noise it means you can be further away and yet still be clearly heard by the caller. This would be a great speaker for older people.

Can this be used to connect to bluetooth without using my laptop? ie i get a call and then cast from my my phone to the speaker no microsoft teams etc

Yes. It has Bluetooth and I have it simultaneously connected to laptop and phone

Want to use microphone part with zoom which is then chrome cast to a tv. will the sound come from the tv speakers or the device?

Most apps (zoom,teams, chime) allow you to select separate mic from the speaker. This question is more to do with the app you are using than the speaker. I have used this as a mic with output on a tv (using hdmi cable).

Can this connect to pc via usb and phone with bt at the same time i.e. so if a call on my phone comes in whilst connected to my pc i can take it?

I believe it can, but I have not at present tested that feature out.
