I don't know what area a canister would cover, but I wasn't impressed with the product.

Can this be used on a bathroom window next to the shower? Will it stay in permanently?

Yes we did this, but the window has to be dry. After few months it may peel off if there is a lot of steam on the window. On the negative side it smells when you apply it, if it's sprayed on another surface (window frame) it will not come off easily. When applied it's not very thick so more then 1 -2 coats may be needed. We used 2 coats on already obscure glass. It did peel off a bit with steam from the shower so its best to let it dry well and not touch the window when wet, otherwise you take the paint off.

If i spray on a glass jar will it be sustainable in the rain?

Not sure I'm afraid, used on the inside of a shed window so not exposed to the elements. Sorry can't be more help.
