A most pleasing colour
Other blue-black inks I've encountered (*cough*Parker*cough*) have had a very light blue colour on the paper after the ink is dry. This ink, however, dries to a very pleasing dark blue; nearly a navy blue on my Leuchtterm 1917 notebook's (ivory) pages. The ink's presentation in the bottle is fantastic and the idea of placing a nib-void in the bottom of the bottle means that you'll be able to get more ink out of the bottle into your pen without having to decant it.The ink dries reasonably quickly, but a splash from a water bottle post-dry will cause the ink to run rather badly. This is not a waterproof ink - nor does it claim to be.This ink does seem to write rather wet; shine-through is something of a problem for me with a Waterman Carène pen and medium nib in the Leuchtterm notebook; with the same ink and a Lamy 2000 fine nib, I observe less of a problem, but nevertheless still some amount of shine-through.With a slightly sturdier notebook paper, I would without question recommend this ink; it is absolutely the best blue-black colour I've tried bar none. As it is, I recommend it for the colour, but advise testing with the pen and paper combination that you're using that shine-through isn't an issue.

A sensible blue-black with great shading and flow
Iroshizuku Shin-kai is a sober blue-black ink with some very nice shading characteristics that can produce colours ranging from faded denim to near-black as it dries. It looks particularly good with broad nibs or flex pens, but even with standard medium nibs you'll see some pleasing variation. The blue component is subtle and unsaturated, so this would be a suitable ink for formal correspondence. It can be hard to locate inks that work well with finicky vintage pens but I'm finding the Iroshizuku range consistently good in that respect. Shin-kai is no exception. Good flow and lubrication. No feathering problems on any of the notebook papers I've tried. With Moleskine notebooks, I do get some bleedthrough on broad strokes. No problems with Rhodia paper.Expensive stuff, but worth it if you need its flow and shading properties. Watch out for customs fees on items over £15 if ordering from sellers in Japan.

Outstanding, if you are looking for a wide range of premium inks that are beautifully presented, look no further.
There is no ink in the work like Iroshizuku, everything about this item is premium quality, from the hand blown glass bottle, to the slightly scented ink enclosed within it. The packaging is strong and yet elegant, and is just as show piece as the bottle itself. The ink flows wonderfully, bringing good contrast within it, and drying relatively quickly. A perfect accompaniment to any high end fountain pen, and excellently priced.

Iroshizuku rocks!
Of the most recent new Iroshizuku inks, this is so much my favourite that I bought a second bottle - I'm getting through the first one fast. This is a wet and beautiful ink, that feels like silk when one writes. It goes on as a rich dark sapphire, and dries, depending on what size nib you're using, to blue-black (Fine nib) or blue-grey (Medium nib). Should you own a temperamental vintage fountain pen, it will probably like this ink - I know mine does. And Shin-Kai is equally happy in modern nibs. Japanese inks do cost a bit more than your standard bottle of High Street stationery store ink, but for me the pleasure it makes of writing is worth it.

Love this dark blue ink
Love this dark blue ink for my Pilot fountain pens. Purchased as a spare bottle as my first purchase was getting low. Wonderfull Pilot ink - expensive to purchase in the UK, but lookout for the shops in Japan who sell on Amazon UK as the prices are reasonable and some offer free UK delivery. If you are happy to wait a couple of weeks for the delivery - just buy a bottle or two.

I did not like the Shin-Kai for the first few hours
I did not like the Shin-Kai for the first few hours. Yet I kept refilling with it. Months later I realised that there had been no skipping, no feathering, perfect flow and a colour that is really easy on the eyes for both general notes and longer journals. Very much recommended.

Exceptional Blue Black
Took ages to arrive from Japan. But...this is my favourite blue black. In a Pilot 823 WA on Midori paper it’s fountain pen bliss to write with and looks beautiful.

Pilot Pen Co. Shin-Kai Ink
Beautiful blue ink color. Looks professional. Like every single other Pilot Pen Co. product I have ever used, this ink is outstanding in quality and performance. The ink color is pleasing to the eye and it flows smoothly. I have only used it in my Pilot Pen Co. fountain pens with both fine and medium point nibs and the writing experience is very enjoyable and satisfying. No smudges or blotches or smears. The ink dries quickly and seems to work well with all types of paper regardless of the paper quality - so far. This is a superior ink product and I like it so much that it may be the only color I use from this point forward.
