If I use this product after the expiration date, will there be any effect?

With this type of product it should not. All depends on the compounds. For example bleach has an expiration date.. and i've used bleach years after it's date and it worked just fine, maybe not as strong as some chemicals lose potency. This is basically like vinegar except your clothes smell nice and not like vinegar.

How long can the product be used?

Use as directed by manufacturer on the box.

do you have to wipe down the inside of the drum at the end of the cleaning cycle?

Personally, I do. After soaking it quite awhile, I wipe around the inside of the drum with the solution water and then run it on through the rest of the cycle! It does a great job!
