An emotional journey
This book put me through the entire spectrum of emotions. More often than not I found myself bawling at the words on the page; the scenes are written in such clear, concise detail and you truly understand the characters emotions and what they are going through. The book is also written in beautiful prose, which in addition to the amazing story makes the reading experience extra special. Highly highly recommend and be prepapred to cry a lot (in the most cathartic way possible).

A Timeless Masterpiece That Still Wrecks Me (In the Best Way)
Reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah for the second time was just as powerful—if not more—as the first. Even knowing what was coming, I found myself in tears again. Hannah’s storytelling is nothing short of extraordinary. She crafts characters so vivid and emotionally complex that you feel every heartbreak, every moment of courage, as if you’re living it alongside them. The story centers on two sisters—one bold and outspoken, the other quiet and introspective—each playing a vital role in the resistance during WWII. Their journeys are filled with sacrifice, strength, and unimaginable loss. It’s a deeply moving portrayal of love, war, and the resilience of women. In my opinion, this is the most compelling WWII novel ever written.I recommended this book wholeheartedly when I first read it years ago, and I stand by that recommendation even more strongly today. This Deluxe Edition is absolutely stunning and holds a special place on my bookshelf. If you haven’t read The Nightingale yet, what are you waiting for? Trust me—you won’t regret it. Just make sure to have tissues nearby, because Kristin Hannah doesn’t just save the emotional punches for the end—she delivers them throughout the entire book.

Exquisite. Perfection. Unforgettable.
Each time I read a Kristin Hannah novel I think, oh this is the best novel she could have written, and that certainly did not change with The Nightingale. How do you even review this book and its perfection? It’s has all the fixings of a perfect novel which is really just Hannah’s continuous work of art. She provides the drama, romance, heartbreak, adventure, and also indulges with a piece of history most of us have never heard of including a heroine, or rather heroines, that give a whole new meaning to superwoman and remain strong and willful in the face of our worlds greatest and most horrific events. As with most Hannah novels, all of your emotions will be surfaced, and don’t forget your tissues. They’re a requirement for reading this one.

Good read, but.
…..spoiler alert. Book was good until the end. Another Kristin Hannah book where the lead character doesn’t make it. Isabelle resists the Nazi, guides soldiers through the Pyrenees, survives horrible beatings and a concentration camp, just to die at home after the war and being freed.

Definitely worth the read
I ordered this for a book club and if I’m being honest, I really didn’t think it would be my cup of tea; I was totally wrong. This book was phenomenal. It had me in an absolute choke hold and I didnt want to put it down.I love that the book used a lot of real world facts and happenings from the WW2 era, but there were definitely some very sad and disturbing things when you know that they may have/did happen in real life. With that being said, the book had a fairly happy ending (though I felt one part was a bit rushed), the characters showed strong development throughout the story, and the writer did a fantastic job describing settings, smells, and sensations. I will absolutely be reading another book by her, and am so glad that someone from the group chose a book I would’ve missed out on.

Captivating & Whole.
This book should be read by all that come across it. This story was so moving and raw. It captured the amazing lengths a mother will go to protect her children. The fierceness of sisterhood. And the will to survive. Beautifully written and a complete story is told. I will read this book many times again.

The book of my life time.
The Nightingale is the most powerful, emotionally resonant book I’ve ever read. I don’t say that lightly, it’s my favorite book of all time. Kristin Hannah masterfully tells the story of two sisters, Vianne and Isabelle, during World War II, and the way their lives unfold, so differently, yet so beautifully, absolutely gutted me.This story isn’t just about war, it’s about survival, sacrifice, love, resilience, and the quiet (and loud) ways women show courage. I laughed, I sobbed, I had to stop and sit with certain scenes because they hit so deeply. The writing is lyrical, the pacing is perfect, and the emotional depth is like nothing I’ve experienced in a novel before.Content note: This book deals with death, violence, wartime trauma, and loss. It’s intense and heartbreaking, but so worth the emotional weight if you’re in the right headspace.I’ll carry this story with me forever. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
