Magical and wonderful!
When I was a child I didn't have any interest in reading books and read very little. As a 32 year old adult I now wish I'd have given them a chance especially the Narnia series. I'm now an avid reader of all genres whether it be fiction, non fiction or classics like this one.I enjoyed this book and was hooked on it from the moment I started reading it. It's a great story and C.S. Lewis had lots of talent as a storyteller and he had a great imagination!I hope I enjoy The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe which is next in the series and I'm pretty sure I will.

A Nice Prelude
Purchased as my son has gotten into audio books and loves The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe, it seemed quite natural to start at the beginning with the creation of Narnia and the introduction of the great Aslan.Being only 4, while my son was able to follow the unabridged audio book he did complain that the story didn't move quite quickly enough so this being a radio dramatisation seemed an obvious answer, and it is.The 'show' is a little over 2 hours, with different people voicing each part this is just right and can be completed in (at least in our case) 2 journeys so for younger listeners it is ewasier for them to grasp. It is quickly becoming a regular request whenever we are out and even at home while we eat dinner. From a grown up perspective this dramatisation has been very well done, yes it's a childrens story but done in this way it is enjoyable (there are some in our collection that simply drive me nuts) and there are times when I catch myself putting one of these childhood tales on simply to relax and feel comforted.I would though recommend listening to the series in chronilogical order rather than in original publication order if you arte wanting to listen to the full series or the whole thing doesn't make much sense but if you are just buying as a stand alone this is a good choice.

Stephen King and Ann Rice seem to have borrowed ideas from this book !!
Yet another amazing children's classic from the timeless astounding Narnian Chronicles. The Magicians nephew is C.S Lewis prequel to the iconic Lion, Witch and the wardrobe , set in Victorian Times . In this compulsive read Lewis introduces us to Digory (later to become the professor in The Lion Witch and The Wardrobe. This is the story of how Narnia was created by Aslan. Being a fan of both Stephen King and Anne Rice . There seems to be heavy elements in this book which both seem to have borrowed. Anne Rice in Queen of the damned in which Akasha was awakened, and many similarities of Narnia to Stephen Kings other world in his recent Fairy-tale. All in all another classic read for those who love fantasy of all age groups .

Loved it
I really enjoyed this. Well written. I wish there could have been more on the characters in future books... But sadly the Last Battle was the last one in the seven. Now, if only someone could find those rings... Talented man was C.S.Lewis.

Lovely, but Very Much A Children's Novel
The Magicians Nephew is the first of my New Years Resolution books, and I was a little disappointed. After hearing for so long how good the Chronicle's of Nania are for all ages I was surprised to find a book that talks down to it's reader as if they were very young. I was reminded of being around 4 or 5 at school, and I'm hoping the The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe doesn't leave me with the same taste in my mouth.Otherwise the story was thoroughly enjoyable and I adored the imagery of Jardis in London in particular. It has some very strong descriptions as well, such as when Aslan wakes Nania, and I feel as though these happened when Lewis forgot the age of his prospective readership.

Not the best quality but a good book none the less
Not the best quality book. Flimsy with a poor paper quality but does the job for our family read. I'm currently reading it to my 8 year old who would struggle with the language but enjoys the story. The first book of the series so actually tells the beginning of the story. Although it has a religious content, without the knowledge of the connections you would be oblivious of this. It was talked about at Sunday school so my children were eager to read it. My 10 year old could read it himself but it did not hold enough interest for him at the beginning. To be honest it was a slow starter to keep children engaged. But a good book by a famous author and a valuable part of my children's collection.

This book is and excellent prequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
I would highly recommend this particular book to anybody who is curious about having seen or read the second book in the Chronicles of Narnia (the second book being The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe). Questions that might arise from the second book are dealt with in this prequel and a very plausible manner indeed. The Magician's Nephew will explain the history and the very beginnings of Narnia, The Witch, Aslan, the elderly professor (and the role he played in past events), the wardrobe & the lamppost in Narnia itself… This book also covers how the sons of Adam and daughters of Eve ended up being so interwoven within this other world too.One can easily read this book to a child at bed time as it is broken up into short/easily digestible chapters… if you read a chapter each evening you will finish the book in just over two weeks & at the end of the book it gives you the first few pages from the second book to read as well as a very short summary for each of the other books in this series. I found the illustrations to be a very nice touch indeed and am very much looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
