Ganapati - in this statue you see lord ganesha/ganpati with his most prominent feature he has, - his elephant head. There is a great mythological story how he got his elephant head. His mother goddess parvati, asked him to safeguard the entrance area from anyone while she goes inside and takes a bath. He agrees. Lord shiva, who is the husband of goddess parvati returns and was furious on being denied the entrance to his own place by this boy, who is ready to fight but to let him in as per his mothers orders. Lord shiva in a rage cut the head of the boy. When realized who the boy was and whom he was obeying, lord shiva sent out to a team find the head of the first sleeping being, and bring it to him so that he can make up for the loss. As a result a sleeping elephant was found and his head then attached to the body of the boy. Shiva bestowed a boon that this boy will be worshipped first of all gods for any new venture, and would be the first among all the gods, hence the name ganapati meaning first among the 'ganas' (gods). This statue is sure to bring his blessing and is a must have if you are starting anything new in your life.
