Super effective, quiet dehumidifier for my basement
I am thrilled with this dehumidifier. It's a lot smaller than my old one that died, and I was worried it wouldn't be as effective for my super moist basement, but it's great! The reservoir is small, which would be an issue if you have to empty it - in my basement I'd probably have to remember to empty it like four or five times a day in the summer - but this comes with a plastic tube you can attach to the back to drain into a sink or a drain, and it's so simple it seems unbelievable, but it really WORKS!!!My basement is about 14' x 30' with 8' high ceiling and an additional crawl space in back.My utility sink is pretty high up and the tube doesn't work uphill (no pump, it's literally just a cheap plastic tube), so I put a sturdy board on top of my dryer next to the sink and keep the dehumidifier on that makeshift platform, with the hose going into the utility sink. It's been running for 2 months and no issues. To use the dryer I just lift it off, remove the board, and then replace it when I'm done. A little bit of a pain but much better than having to remember to empty the reservoir over and over every day, and I can leave it running when I go away.My house is built near a river, so it's in a floodplain and basements get really wet, with mildew and mold if it's left alone long enough. With this dehumidifier it doesn't smell bad down there anymore, and things I store in the basement don't end up with that "basement smell". It makes my whole house less likely to smell like mildew in the humid humid summers we have over here. Two tips:1) The drain hose comes folded up and has pretty intense bends in it, creating several flattened spots in the hose, so when I first unbent it and hooked it up I took some chip clips and butterfly clips and put one on each of the the bends to push the edges of the flattened spots in the other direction in hopes of opening up those flat spots. Doing this did not get rid of the bends entirely, but loosened them up enough for water to get through. The water comes out slowly in drips and dribs, so there doesn't need to be much space, but I wanted to make sure the water wouldn't get stuck. It might work to warm up the tube with hot water before trying to squeeze out the flattened spots, since it's plastic - I didn't try that but I bet it would make it easier.2) Don't forget to clean the filter. There is a red light that goes on when it's time, but that red light seems based on how many days it's been, not actual monitoring of the filter. I'm finding that sometimes it looks clear and not in need of cleaning but if I rub gently with my fingers, a lot of dirt balls up and comes off. I just clean it with my fingers, but be gentle! You don't want to have to replace the filter.I'm super happy with this product, and recommend it for your basement or other room.

Excellent Dehumidifier
The media could not be loaded. In my part of California, it gets quite humid quite often. To avoid infiltration of mold and damage to electronics, I run this unit to keep the humidity in check when it’s outside the comfort zone of 60%.Setup is very easy. The reservoir is easily removed once full and easily replaced once empty. The unit also has the option of a continuous drain using a garden hose, a drain, and gravity.Once it’s powered on, the in-built hygrometer gives a reading of the ambient humidity and then the compressor spins to reach the easily adjustable set point. It drops the humidity by 35%+ within a matter of minutes. The compressor isn’t terribly loud either and gently hums as it removes moisture from the air. While I probably wouldn’t sleep with it on in the same room, if it’s centrally located within a house with open rooms, the noise is not much of an issue. And if you like white noise, it may actually be a decent sleep aid.The unit rolls on four wheels, has a reasonably small footprint, is high quality, is light and easy to pick up, emits fresh-smelling air from its exhaust vent, and certainly lives up to the Black and Decker name. It’s a great value for the money, removes ambient moisture quickly, and is highly recommended.

Works well but a little louder than expected
I used this dehumidifier for the last few months of summer and mechanically it functions pretty well. Set up was easy and it did a good job of reducing the humidity in my house. I have an 1100 ft² single story house and I ran it at one end to just take the edge off of the whole house, and it did that well. It is louder than I expected and I would not put this in a bedroom. It would be fine in your basement, and it would be fine in a side room. I did find the controls very hard to read. Instead of text there are icons for all the functions, and they are not super obvious to me so I keep having to look at the manual. There is an indicator window in the water tank to show how full it is, but there's no kind of float to mark that level, so it's essentially useless. When you go to pour the water out of the bucket, there's no place that is a good pour spout, not even the front corner, so the water just dumps out very messily. (Honestly I do not understand why they don't design a spout in these things. Usually people like to use the water from dehumidifiers for potted plants and things like that.) If the price and the capacity seem good to you I think this is a solid piece of equipment.
