No you can't switch off the waterfall only the light.

How big is this aquarium ?

Not very, if you put the plastic weed/flowers in and the airfilter, there is no room even for a medium sized fish. We got one then had to buy another tank as was too small for the fish, which was normal sized gold fish- This tank wasn't the best buy I've ever made
