Used this set to sharpen a Kershaw Blur -1670OLBLK
my first time using these, a few observations...the first two stones... course grit 120 and medium grit 280 are alumina oxide. with these I used both edge trailing and edge leading strokes. I made sure to clean with honing oil during use. These took some time to create the burr and move forward but patience is always key anyway when sharpening.the next two stones... fine grit 600 and ultra fine grit 1000 are silicon carbide. these need to used and treated differently than the alumina oxide stones. with these I only used light edge trailing strokes. Also prior to use and during use keep them wet and clean with light soapy water. yes they are soft but I was able to minimize the wear using very light pressure.final results sharpening the Kershaw Blur were very good using these Lansky curved blade sharpening hones... just take your time!

A certain advantage for hook blades.
This incorporates right into my existing Lansky gear, making it an easy upgrade. I will echo the reviews that say the stones are soft, especially in the finer grades. I would suggest using a trailing stroke, but I can see that these will wear out a bit quicker due to their shape. I wonder why Lansky doesn’t offer a true stone, I have to imagine they would be very expensive, but superior to the corundum type used. Worth the purchase for the ease and effect, even if you have to be a somewhat gentle with the stroke.

Absoutley not up to Lansky’s normal quality!!! I would not buy these again.
The coarseand extra coarse two hold up and do a good within their range. The medium and fine are little more than hardened chalk. I tried to sharpen ONE knife and the medium and fine grits were worn down to much to use. Also, they did not put an edge on my knife. Not even a workable edge. The coarse and extra coarse put a rough edge on my knife. However, when I tried the medium and fine grits they wore away so fast that I removed about 1/8 or a little more of the hone’s surface in just a couple minutes. And this was a cheap knife I was trying it on. Not one of the super steels.DO NOT BUY THESE!!! They are pure garbage!!!I love Lansky products, but these can’t be from the same factory that produces their other stuff. Even a cheap knife, with low grade steel wore away the chalk-like material that 2 of these these are made of. The 2 coarsest stones do have some use, but do not put a fine, or polished edge on a knife. The 2 finer stones, are useless to me. I ended up using my regular stones after I put the correct angle on the knife with the coarse stones. .That worked reasonably well. These broke my heart. I was expecting quality stones and couldn’t even get an edge on one cheap knife.

Works good enough by itself to get four stars in my book.
Liking kukris and sharpening recurved clip points on some bowie style knives, I found myself wanting a quicker way of setting in a new blade bevel angle and putting a razor edge rather than trying to go all the way with the lansky puck. Already had the angle guide system that Lansky makes, so this set was the logical choice. I set up my system with a Kabar Acheron knife that had been dull out of the box in the clamp and tried to sharpen it to scalpel level, kept on hitting the clamp too much and I couldn't sharpen the knife well. Took the pick and the knife out of the guide and tried to sharpen like using a Lansky puck, worked great all the way to having an edge I could count on to do something with. Proceeded to sharpen the recurve in the clip point on an OKC USN Survival knife, a crkt Tanto minimalist, the serrations on an OKC LSA, a hand made karambit, a Cold Steel Magnum Kukri machete (Which I ended up discovering couldn't take or keep an edge worth anything), an OKC Kukri Knife, and A Cold Steel Spartan. Got the desired level of sharpness, and in the case of the knives that I had been sharpening for friends got some amazed glares at the realization that the knife was at the sharpest they had ever seen it at. I wished they had designed this as more of a stand alone accessory with a proper handle, it would have benefited from it.

They work great but you will have trouble with the new clamp.
These are great and took my karambit from dull to so sharp that I can shave the fine hairs on my arm.The sad part is you cannot get the 20 or 15 degree angle without scrapping the two plastic knobs or the clamp area that holds the blade. The new clamp will not work with these hones. I can only get the 25 or 30 degree and I have to have the blade held so closed to the spine that the blade will shift while it is being honed. The new rubber they added to the clamp helps but after the pressure of the honing and some honing oil gets the blade moving.I have the sharpest multi-angle clamp now. I could use it to scrap window stickers, cut open boxes, or use as a razor blade. The hones do there job. They need to change the clamp design again so their "Curved Blade Hones Set" will hit the bevel of the blade and not the clamp.

OK. Not great. Stone wear easily.
Ok. Not great. Product is fragile. I dropped one of the stones on the floor and a big piece broke off. I used the rounded stones on a recurve blade. They do an ok job sharpening, but not great. The motion to use the system, especially with the rounded stones, takes some getting used to. The stones wore down after one use. I used these with the Lansky Sharpening system. I used the honing oil that came with the system. That seemed to “clog” (for lack of a better word) the stone grit and make them less effective. All in all, not my favorite — stones or the system. If you can, buy the diamond stones. Not sure if they come rounded or not too, or choose another sharpening system.

Lansky is good stuff
These hones are just what is needed for a blade with an inward curve. I have kukri and this sharpens the blade smoothly. Also good for karambits and similar. Flat hones and stones do not work nearly as well for them.
