says pure black finish but it looks brown. what color is it?

The same cabinet I ordered appears as black as tar.

Could I cut a hole on the side to hide a litter box??

The sides are structural--they hold up the top. Furthermore, it's particleboard, not solid wood and that is very difficult to cut. HOWEVER, if you have a router that can deal with particleboard, you could rout a hole in the side to allow for a smallish cat to enter when the cabinet doors are closed. But if you fracture the board, it's all over.

What are the usable interior dimensions? I.e., how large of an item could you easily fit inside with the shelf removed and the doors closed?
