Works just fine.
Works great! Like others mentioned, getting it set up is a bit finicky but once you get the hang of it, it works fine.

The grinder was good, this makes it better.
The Kitchen Aide coffee grinder works well. It can grind spices. BUT; this is so much better than using the coffee grinder insert. If you look carefully at the picture, you see that the blades have been bent so that they get down closer to the bottom of the vessel, doing a better job on small spices. It also has a fairly tightly fitting lid that minimizes the dust created when really pulverizing some herbs and spices from getting out of the vessel. The vessel is also smaller which seems to keep the spices recirculating through the blades. I have never needed to grind more than once due to the smaller size however, it seems plenty big enough. The only problem you may have is stopping before your spices get to the powder stage and some uneven-ness of the resulting spice. I just tend to take it until the largest bits are small enough, assuming that with fresh herbs and spices, too small is not a problem.

Great addition to the Kitchen Aid Coffee Grinder
If you use the Kitchen Aid Coffee Grinder (BCG111OB) just for coffee beans, then the basic grinder is all you need. However, we grind other things such as flax seed, which the coffee grinder cup does not handle, well. The accessory kit with the spice cup and lid is perfect for grinding small seeds and spices. The blade design is completely different and does an excellent job of QUICKLY turning seeds into a fine powder that is much better for consumption, far better than the standard coffee grinder cup. Because of the lid, none of the powder gets out, which is a real mess with just the basic coffee grinder cup.

Good product but…
Ok so this product works well. As far as taste is concerned its kind off irrelevant except to say that i prefer fine ground spices so that in some instances you may avoid an odd mouth feel being added to your food from large spice pieces. This easily ground my basil to a fine powder and I was happy about that. My main complaint with this product has nothing to do with the seller or the sellers prices specifically. The seller prices were right in line with the normal retail price charged by kitchenaid. I think the fact that I just spent more on an accessory then I spent on the actual machine is pretty ridiculous. The blame here would go entirely to KitchenAid for having such a high-price point on their products. The grinder I purchased elsewhere only came with the coffee grinding part of the receptacle and it cost 25.99. This item contains 2 of the receptacles for grinding spices along with 3 plastic lids, 2 normal and one with shaker holes. This is almost exactly the same thing as the coffee receptacle except it’s a little bit shorter allowing you to put a plastic cap on top of it so that the spices being ground don’t go all over the inside of the machine and the blade is very slightly different in shape. Its really kind of ridiculous to have to pay MORE for this specific container. Granted, for $30 this does include 2 of the containers and lids. I dont have any reason to need 2 of them so I would have been much happier buying 1 and spending $15. Unfortunately kitchenaid does not package them in single packs. I kind of feel like I got ripped off by kitchenaid. They clearly sell these in two packs only so you are forced to buy 2 instead of one, causing them to make more money. None of this is the sellers fault, this is just how kitchenaid does business. The product does work very well.

My husband loves it
My husband uses this literally every morning to grind his coffee beans for coffee. He loves it. It works extremely well, and we have had no issues with it whatsoever.

Best ever idea for grinding spices and coffee in one grinder.
This set is so awesome. I’ve often had 2 separate grinders, 1 for coffee and 1 for spices . This set makes it so much easier. Just put your spices in the jar,, cover it with the provided cover, and then push the grinder cover down to grind!Set also comes with a shaker lid, which is awesome for sprinkling right over food to cook or serve.

Default air tight cover
Tight cover is loos and need to be replaced. If not, product has to be return. The so "air tight cover" is a loose one.

... an old KitcheanAid coffee grinder that was still running like a champ
I have an old KitcheanAid coffee grinder that was still running like a champ, but needed a cup replacement. Since noone offers just a cup, I had to buy an exact same thing KitchenAid BCG111OB Blade Coffee Grinder. During my research of coffee grinders, I noticed this set and thought it would be a neat idea to have separate grinding containers for spices, but I was still on the fence as I thought I could use the coffee grinder cup for any grain-grinding purpose. I'm glad I purchased this set! If you look at the pictures, the blade is specifically designed for grains way smaller that coffee beans in a way that the blade comes way closer to the bottom of the cup, compared to the coffee grinder cup. The set is 2 cups, 2 solid covers and 1 perforated cover to be able to use freshly ground spices right after grinding. Pictures are coffee grinder cup compared to spice grinder cup.
