UST Heritage Lensatic Compass with Lightweight Brass Construction for Camping, Hiking, Backpacking, Hunting and Outdoor Survival

Wanted a backup carry compass after I misplaced my Army Lensatic compass (found it!!). This is a beautiful "vintage- looking" compass which is quite accurate. Compared it with my Army compass and my cell phone compass and it checks out well. All about the same, within a degree or so. I'd navigate with it. Others have commented that the bezel is to loose but mine is tight (and bezel is adjustable if it gets loose. Finish is good. Lightweight but solid. After a bit more Brasso on the case to bring up the brass shine I'll have it engraved as an heirloom from "old dad" and buy another to use. Inexpensive and fast shipping.

I like this compass but when I read the description that it has "luminous directional letters" I mistakenly thought it glowed in the dark. It doesn't. You will need a light source if you plan on using it at night. Other than that I am happy with this.

For a couple of months I have been looking for an analogue compass that was attractive, easy to read, and affordable. It seemed like that should be easy to find, but it wasn't. This, however, is exactly what I was looking for.This compass is attractive, and has a nice weight to it. It feels like a solid tool in the hand. It would make an excellent gift.

My 9 year old wanted a compass, this one is perfect. The brass is thick enough to get engraving done if you wanted. Perfect gift!

I recently pulled this out for closer inspection after I purchased it earlier this year. This compass’s “North” actually points closer to South-East. Thank the maker I’ve never had to rely on this beautifully useless piece of equipment, it would definitely be a contributing factor in my death after being lost in the wilderness. My grandpa always said “if you can only do one thing, at least do it well”, the makers of this compass sold me a prop, it’s beautiful but nonfunctional, therefore I would not recommend this.

This compass looks nice and is usable, but is not as well made as a true military lensatic compass. It is also missing some features of a military compass.It does seem to correctly identify magnetic north. The lensatic apparatus functions and does allow you to shoot an azimuth. The compass is oil dampened and floating. Markings are in mils and degrees.The problems are many. The bezel feels cheap and poorly made because it is. It is too loose and seems to be getting looser after very little use. None of the lines are luminous. The case is circular with no straight edge for use with a map. The compass does not lock (meaning you can’t freeze the motion of the magnet).Most people don’t need a lensatic compass. You can get excellent orienteering compasses for under $20 that are easier to use, durable, and will meet your needs. If you already know how to use a lensatic compass, you will be disappointed in this one. If you need a lensatic compass, you will want to invest in one of higher quality.

How am i suppose to give this has a gift

Much nicer than I expected, thoroughly pleased with this simplistic wellbuilt compass. Appears to be accurate.
