when the ceiling is 10ft tall how much distance should be between each light?

Luxrite should have light casting specs which tell you the cone pattern they produce, usually a diameter on the ground per mounted foot height. The same specs can be found for PAR and BR bulbs too. Each light is different due to the lens and reflector used. Bulbs are mostly spot, flood, and diffused. This Luxrite and light like them are almost all diffused type and usually cast a wide angle of light, which means less Lumen density per foot diameter. Best to talk to a real bulb place for more info. You then draw on paper the room sq-ft layout and then draw scaled circles that correlate to your mount height for the light, this then dictates how many lights you need to cover what you want. And remember, you may need more Lumens depensing on how bright you want it. For most 10ft ceilings I like to install 6" bulbs/lights (1400 Lumens) and put them on a dimmer. But if the floor area/room is say only a 10x10 then two 4" can work ok.

Right after installing the lights flicker. Is there a solution to this beside returning?

Do you need a can housing for these lights?

Yes. These are designed to be a retrofit for a 4 inch can. If you don’t have an existing light can, You might consider a “remodel” can.
