Can the plug socket rotate in the body? My order arrived today, and the body "sticks up" from the socket, rather than down, in the illustration.

It can if you're prepared to take it apart. You will need a 3-spline screwdriver bit - and the screws are done up really tight. Once apart, you will find the plug/socket arrangement can be fitted either up or down, so just push it out, rotate thru' 180 and refit. The wires to the PCB are very thick, and they're all coloured red(!?!). So I replaced the neutral one (which only carries a very small current for the control electronics) with a thinner blue wire. (Note - the load neutral current just carries through to the socket - the wire to the PCB is just teed off. Likewise, the earth simply goes straight thru' with no other connection.) Temporarily detaching the PCB (two small Philips screws) makes this job easier. You don't have to shorten the other wires, but they are a bit awkward to refit. Just make sure everything is clear of the earth pin, which is now close to the PCB.These devices are German - I've seen pictures of one with German connectors. Sensible design - they just fit the appropriate plug/socket pair for a particular market, leaving the rest as standard.

The switches are the 'memory' - so unlike those pesky things that supposedly 'learn', they don't suffer instant amnesia after a power cut. They also 'remember' if they were switched ON or OFF for about 30 seconds, so will withstand brownouts. After that, they will default to OFF when power is restored.I need this feature for my application, which is remote control of fluorescent working lights above the stage of a theatre. This means we can switch them from our control room (about 15 metres away) and be sure they're OFF when the curtain goes up.

Is there a on/off switch built into the socket plug itself?

on the new generation (cheaper) ones, there is a button to switch on/off - its the LED light on the socket.

Do these work with home automation controllers like the rfxcom rfxtrx433e usb controller?
