A top line HEPA air filter unit for our bedroom!
This is the second unit that I’ve purchased. The original was several years old and the unit’s motor bearings began to make a bit of noise. The motor bearings are sealed, so I bought this replacement. It does a great job in filtering in our bed room and is quiet enough to give us a bit of fan blowing noise to provide a bit of white noise. The filter lasts us about 8 months, with it on many days and every night,. The replacement HEPA filter cost was $69.99, from Filter Monster. Whirlpool Charcoal PRE-FILTERS (Extra large) 8171510K (4 Pack). Size: 17.68 x 0.12 x 17.87 inches. ($8:70)

Excellent with one small downfall
I had the old model version of this that wasn't quite as feature laden as this one and it has worked perfectly for well over 10 years now. If comparing the two, this new model is now even quieter than the previous and is remarkably quiet which I love! In addition, it has a sensor to monitor the air and adjust the speed of filtration accordingly. It's amazing how I can spray a bathroom cleaner in the next room from where this is located, and within a minute, this thing is able to pick-up on the chemicals released into the air and alert me (via the orange or red light on the front of the unit) and increase it's speed to aide in the filtration process which tells me it's not only doing its job, but that it is doing it even more efficiently than the old model that didn't have built-in sensors and just stayed on the speed that I set it to. The only reason I did not give this five-stars is because the unit has developed this horribly annoying, squeaking noise (like a hamster wheel) that is non-stop. Makes you want to spray some WD-40 on it but you don't know where and/or how to do that or if that would even be the right fix.

Good product overall
It’s bigger than I thought it would be. Seems to be working nicely. Main issue with the one I have is. When it’s on low/auto it’s very loud. You can hear the fan inside that spins knocking. So idk if that’s with every model or if I just got lucky. So idk if I had bought it at a store I would of returned it for in hopes a quieter one in return. But I don’t even m kw if I can return it on here for free or not. I’ll have to look into it. I will say when it’s on medium high or turbo it’s quiet ironically enough. Just a bummer I can’t use the auto feature due to the very annoying knocking noise

Beautiful, Quiet, Sensitive Air Sensors, High Quality, Clean Air
I have had several Air Purifiers over the years and this Whirlpool is the best Air Purifier of them all that iv owned as of this writing. It is quiet and moves LOTS of air. The Filters are of large size with more Surface Area per square inch which allows for more efficient air flow and longer life of filtering time. I do have several Air Quality Monitors that I check the air ratings throughout the house and they prove that this Whirlpool is performing well & some better than the other ones Iv owned in the past. Possibly better because of the higher volume of air flow capability this model offers. I also find that the Built-in Automatic Air Sensors work very well and are very sensitive which makes for a great feature on this model over my other ones. I like it enough to have already bought a second one so now i have two. I highly recommend this model even tho it is a bit expensive up front but over the years, this dependable brand & model should pay for itself over the health benefits it will offer to you and family. =Five easy stars.

Irritating harmonic buzz
This is much more attractive then previous models. It works just as well. The noise it makes is god awful! The fam itself is quieter than the old models but it creates a harmonic sound that is hard to pinpoint initially. The sound comes from the other side of the room.I finally realized that it was this air purifier by turning off every other machine of any kind and it was emanating from this unit. I don’t know how it happens but it projects a high pitched hum that doesn’t seem to come from the fan so I presume it is the motor. It can be extremely irritating in an otherwise quiet room. I have to use it in my home theater room so that the home theater speakers cancel the fan noise by being louder. It is a little eerie to say the least. For people that say it gets worse with time I think they may not have noticed it until later but it is clearly a design and engineering issue.I returned the first one because the cover was faulty and they both made the same awful humming noise right out of the box. I liked the old white fan noise that was loud but not irritating like this hum. This is so much more attractive than previous models that depending on where you place it the trade off might be worth it to you. In an otherwise quiet room it will drive you crazy with a hum that is produced by it but is heard away from the unit. It actually took me awhile to believe that this hum was coming from the unit. When you turn it off though the hum disappears. Most of the digital controls and options are unnecessary and never used. Seems to clear the air just like previous models.Clean air with any of these is the result of air flow volume. Whirlpool does that best. All the gimmicky type ion and other seemingly cutting edge devices don’t really clean air. Air flow volume and a HEPA filter that it passes through are the only method that cleans your air. I do use the pre filters because I have a cat and it serves to get coated with a white dust that protects the HEPA filter from getting dirty from larger particles .Maybe because of my cat but the pre filters only last a month and never 3 months. On the other hand all of my Whirlpool purifiers I have owned have HEPA filters that will last two years before needing replacement as long as you protect them with pre filters. Beautiful looking appliance that has a demonic hum marring it’s otherwise ideal performance!
