VixenQPL Polarie Star Tracker Compass White

Good but pricey
I have trouble seeing Polaris through trees at the only perfectly level spot in my garden so bought the Vixen Polar Meter to compensate. To use it attach it to the Polarie shoe. Set the latitude on the device and tilt the tripod head so that the bubble is centre. Rotate the tripod so that the compass needle points north and that’s it. From my location there is a tiny negative west declination between magnetic north and true north, too small to affect short exposures of 60 seconds with a focal length up to 50 mm.All in all this device – with superior engraving and detail - is a definite improvement on the Polarie’s built in compass and latitude setting but it is very expensive for what is a simply a piece of plastic with a bubble guide and compass. However, I have no regrets about buying it as it works very well.

Useful addition to Polarie
A useful addition to the Vixen Polarie for times when the sky is partially obscured. If you know your latitude and the offset in your area between true and magnetic north you can reasonably accurately set up Polarie for wide angle photography even if you can't see Polaris. As with all aspects of Vixen's Polarie system this an elegant and simple solution. Obtained at a good price and delivered promptly.
