Are these any good for listening to Heavy/Death Metal?

Yes, I use an 8 string myself and it's absolutely perfect - I've tried very expensive cans from Ultrasone and Bose that do not measure up to the humble 20x - enjoy

How do these compare with the more pricey ath m50s?

Well I have to be honest - the M50's are better. But these aren't bad, however they are not for portable use at all because of the massive wire. And the noise isolation works, but it's not stellar. However the headphones are a great all-rounder. Hope this helps.

What's the mid range like on these headphones - is it clear? I dislike phones that are bass heavy, and obviously don't want anything too tinny either.

Hi - I Use these headphones in my home recoding studio. I bought one set was impressed so bought a second pair. In my view you could pay twice the price and not get as good a quality. They are rounded have a balanced frequency response and are robust but light in physical structure and Comfortable. I would recommend but if they did not suit- you haven't spent a fortune.Am
