can you cut this into two 5" pieces without fraying?

You'll definitely get some fraying. I cut my mesh using a wood burner and that does help - but the more you mess around with it, the more fraying you'll have.

What's the mesh hole size? is it strong enough to make hanging food drying net?

The hole size is about 1/16” square or approximately 2mm. But, here’s some issues that you may run into. It initially feels strong, but if introduced to moisture, then it will start breaking down especially if you have weight in it. Once the weave starts to fray, it won’t stop. Then you may have color bleed also. Great for crafts, but I wouldn’t use it for curing/drying meat. We always hung in nylon netting or cheese cloth. Hope this helps!
