Great little camera.
I've always loved my Coolpix 2100, small with great pictures, easier to take on trips than my SLR. Unfortunately, it didn't like the spray at Niagara falls and died. I bought this W300 to take its place, especially since it's waterproof. It's easy to use and takes great pictures and video. Higher resolution than the 2100 (16 MP vs 2.1), very crisp and clean. I haven't had opportunity to take underwater or snorkeling yet, but am very pleased with Nikon quality.

Phenomenal performance in a handy package.
I have ruined cameras shooting stills or video in the rain, but never again. This waterproof unit is excellent! I use it for stills and videos on land, and IN THE SEA. I so a local cable access TV show in my city and have produced excellent results when shooting segments IN A POOL or IN THE OCEAN! I covered a US Marine Corps League Polar Plunge fund raiser event on a beach at Cape Cod, Massachusetts... It was 10 degrees (F) and a medium surf. A young man agreed to carry the camera in video mode on a selfie stick when he ran and plunged into the water and ran OUT even faster... All captured in brilliant video and sound giving my viewers an up close feel for doing such a Polar Plunge. I have a lot of professional Nikon camera's and lenses but I always carry this as a back-up! It's never let me down.....

Mixed bag
Some goods and bads with this one. The rattling as others mentioned can be annoying. Performance is fine once you learn its limits. I have found the flash, and custom flash controls, to be excellent and helps to compensate for its limits. I do miss the folding screen of my old TG 870 which was perfect for snorkeling and off angle shots which happen with some regularity with this class of camera. Surprise feature: Direct micro USB charging! No proprietary wires to lose or wall plug thingy's, and you can recharge on the go using standard cell phone battery banks. Bravo! I would not recommend the CP3 silicone jacket - looks cool but adds too much size with no real function.

Can't Go Wrong with Quality
The media could not be loaded. Looking for a waterproof camera and decided to try a knock-off GoPro (latest Dragon brand) since I wasn’t interested in the overhyped, and overpriced tiny models. As expected, I was severely disappointed and returned. I only had two true choices for the task of a compact, self-contained unit, the TG-5 or W300.The Nikon COOLPIX W300 is simple to configure and operate. If you want point and click, then this is easily done with good results. You also have some manual control of settings and may want to view the on-line manual to see if it can do what you want. It’s small enough for a daily carry camera or if you don’t want to lug around an SLR. Based on specifications, features, reviews and research I believe I made the better choice for my needs. I mainly got it for 4K videos and does an impressive job at that; looks great on the 4K big screen while streaming from my NAS. Don’t cheat yourself and opt for the highest settings on video or pictures since storage is cheap. I used a 128GB V30 SDXC card that never missed a beat. You’ll get about 45 minutes worth of video at that resolution so you may want to get additional batteries based on your usage. I see approximately 32GB per hour of footage.I tested the camera at home under water and didn’t see any issues with leaking. I’ve taken it on trips to pools, beaches and snorkeling with no leaking. Make sure you read the warnings on sealing the camera before water use and you shouldn’t have problems. The TG-5 has two compartments to seal and potentially leak where the W300 has one. For some reason I had an issue with temporary fogging on the LCD screen when parasailing which cleared up after landing. Contacted Nikon support and told to send in for repair but ended up exchanging for a new unit since I was still under my return window. Those “action” cameras are too tiny to handle and not worth the trouble. The size of this camera is a good compromise and comfortably attaches to my mountain bike with a standard mount although the novelty of watching bumpy rides wears off quickly. It’s not that the image stabilization is an issue, just that being there is much better than watching it on any screen which can be nauseating to some. Here are some early unaltered samples from this camera.- - -Had to decrease video resolution from 3840x2160 to 1920x1080 since amazon upload was destroying the quality.- - -Either the new uploaded video didn't replace the original or the quality of amazon's re-encoding is still killing the actual video quality.

Good camera, but get insurance
So far so good. I had the AW120 prior to this but that one suffered water damage. This one is working well so far and has all the modes from previous versions and more. It also comes with Snapbridge support so it can automatically transfer photos to your mobile device for easy sharing. It is built tough, takes good photos, and works well in the water. I would still recommend getting some insurance to replace the camera if water ever damages it.

Excellent Camera
The quality is outstanding. I am taking pictures at Coney IslandI shot the New Year’s Day polar bear swim. Was amazed how well it worked. I didn’t want to take my canon EOS 5D Mark IV in the waterIt’s a slightly panoramic image. The skin tones are great and the lens is very sharp. It also shoots at 300dpi giving a high quality print. I printed them on Epson Lustre paper 11.7x16.5 paper. Image size is 14 horizontal super sharp
